Overpriced, gimped 40 series card. No thanks, Nvidia.

let me be the first to say what everyone is thinking - @ $799 this is overpriced and we know it'll be more than that.

if AMD had the sales channels that Nvidia does the 7900xt (non-x) would mop the floor and take this out as the trash.
but they don't have the sales channels and some people in some places may never get a sniff of the 7900xt (non-x) until the 3D Cache version comes out.

295mm2 on a cutting edge node, that is similar to gtx1080, but that was years ago so don't expect 699.
shareholders got ridiculously greedy after record breaking 2020/21.

probably right until we see no more of ampere in shops.

just because nvidia priced rtx40 beyond most people's reach doesn't mean a $900 successor to 6800xt would sell like hotcakes.

You mean, gimped 4060 that poses as 4080, fails, then tries it's luck with 4070TI?

    Big middle fingers to nGreedia!

Get a 3080 ti and be done with it. Everyone is using the China Pandemic Flu to cash in. The rich got richer and too many companies raised their prices and never lowered them back. Just don't buy from these companies. The 4090 price was reasonable, but the 4080 is ridiculous! The 3080 was about $799. Don't buy the 4080! Hell, don't buy the 4070/4070 ti either. Go AMD for once and don't let Nvidia do this crap to us.

Looks like corporations are taking naive and greedy customers for a ride, and it is only their fault for accepting the abusive relationship.
If you render stuff, do research that needs CUDA, if you do design or video editing that can benefit a lot from the new encoders and GPU power, sure, go for it, but if you are willing to feed Nvidia or anyone else 1K USD or more every 2 years for gaming, you're just doing it wrong - especially in 2022 when gaming is nowhere near the imaginative endeavor of the mid 2000s, there are no more Starcrafts, no more Dragon Age, no more WoW, no more Warcraft, even Cyberpunk was not even remotely on par with the Witcher series.
There are literally no great games that would require you to save up for a Voodoo2 so you can play them. There are no games that you need a 2600K i7 CPU so you don't lag in some raid at 30% GPU utilization. It's all just endless boring irrelevant corporate or indie stuff that's barely entertaining.

    yes, it does

actual real world sales are story driven and Nvidia had the luxury of premium pricing in a relatively more affluent era.

mind you, atm it's Nvidia making the story about overpricing and gimping not AMD doing a single thing (except snark).
the precise and exact thing that has happened is Nvidia has overplayed their hand - period. and not just in one area either, i'm not setting out to flame Nvidia by going into exhaustive failures that will be taught in Business Schools, i'm just a not-so-innocent bystander with a finger in both red and green pies. and having tasted many pies since either flavor started to bake them (how far is this metaphor...) i know some pies look fabulous but are often overbaked.

AMD has a story about cutting edge technology coming in for less money.
Nvidia, like i said created their own narrative for Lovelace and will have to deal with it

plus, i never said a word about "hotcakes". $1k cards are beyond the "hotcakes" category, which is entry level.
nevertheless, i double down about sales channels/ availability. if 7900xt (non-x) is as available (but it's not) at the number of dealers like the rtx4070ti, it would outsell both the 4080 and 4070ti for less money.

Absolutely this. I just buy 2nd hand cards since gtx970. Why pay 1000s of USD to play WHAT exactly? Far Cry SIX?? There is one or two games a year which are good. I dont need to play em in 4k 144fps to enjoy that. Its all ridiculous. I really wonder, what the ppl who buy 4090 really play?

Because thats a adult amount of money to play what? Brain dead games for retarded kids? Id does not add up anymore. This exact thing, you pay really big amount of money, so you must be clever and successfull, and you will play what exactly? Dumbed down game number 7? Wtf

I am not sure why they didn't name it 4070 other than they wanted more cash for the 4070ti. nVidia is off their bonkers this go around. Release the Ti series in 6 months not right away.

who cares what sells more units if both are major disappointments in terms of value, 6800xt was fantastic at 650, so was 3080. now the cheapeast one will be 900, the other over 1200.
wtf are people thanking amd for ? being slightly less retarded with prices ?

And funny enough, without dlss 3, the $900 4070ti will run the same as that 3080 more than likely. Even if it's $800...it's outrageous.

should beat 3080 comfortably with 7700 cuda on new uarch with shader execution reordering and 2.8G clocks.
you only need 66% of 4080 to match 3080 (61% in rt), 4070ti will be 80%, so +20% more performance (+30% in RT). that's not bad if it was 699.
still, all I want is 3080 rt performance for as little as possible. rasterized, I haven't found a game that would cause trouble to my 3060ti.
let others get excited about 900eur cards.

I don't get the TGP of this card. It's less than half the size of AD102 with (practically) the same clocks. It has half bandwidth and memory of 4090. And yet it has 285W TGP instead of 220W.
