So in these times when security firms and hardware vendors are pushing malware onto consumers, how are we supposed to trust an unsigned executable file that requires administrator privileges from a single unknown source?

You know the files from the examples I linked were not detected by any antivirus for months until someone actually researched them manually, right?
sure, that can happen, but if you don't trust Dev and not signed then don't run it, or wait for others to test it. I don't really use it but it is on my HDD.
Its a GitHub repository, you could just build the source yourself. Also, getting a certificate is really easy, would it still make you feel better if its signed? I can download the file and sign it, and upload it somewhere, if you want to. =p
