I don’t see how thats a problem. New card series, new performance and new pricing. They didn’t have a problem releasing a 1070gtx that beat a 980ti for 300$+, they won’t have a problem releasing a 3070rtx that performs like a 2080ti for 500$ or even less.

These cards are 2020 cards anyway.

I'm not sure, but would we have "counted" on Nvidia to announce anything at GTC? I personally would not have expected an announcement yet, only later this year, probably around the same time as 2018 (August).

If they tease anything about GPUs, the question still is, what, and when will they come? First answer probably given, second, not so sure.

There's gonna be A LOT of really pissed RTX users if Nvidia releases some sort of better, cheaper, shrunk RTX series.
Before you say that it cannot happen, remember Maxwell.

Hmm it may, devs could be less drawn to dxr and rtx with unreal/cry now supporting agnostic realtime raytracing it does make rtx look more a gimmick unless nv changes drivers to have rt cores accelerate for the ahh non dxr implementation cant recall it atm svap eh something...

My point being - there’s competition now. Hopefully enough to affect Nvidia to increase performance and lower price. What is RTX on enough titles to hold on your hand? Not like the alternatives have much work ahead of them far as saturating the game industry goes.

Imo the sooner NV does 7nm RTX the better for everyone.

I'm hoping for a "real" upgrade from 1080Ti. It's probably not going to happen yet but that's what I would like to see.

Why would they be mad "they"had to know this would be a very fast refresh cycle. You don't exactly expect to have a 754 mm2 die and not shrink that sucker down quickly. Nivida basically screamed don't buy this generation of RTX cards with the pricing they used. I along with many already expected a fast die shrink to 7nm in under 18 months because of the cost to make that large die and the costs of this generation of cards. Today we will likely only hear about some 7nm goodness relating to Tesla cards.

Most likely will be all about Volta and new 7nm incoming proffesional gpus, focused on AI.

Remember maxwell? Nothing wrong before or after maxwell

The same statement is made every single time a card comes out that beats a titan for a fraction of the price, be in 6 months after or 12, there's always someone who will say "Oh those (insert product here) users are gonna be pissed!"

    Guess what happens every time?

    Little to no one complains.

If you remember any of it being a big issue in the past, that's a you problem.

its no secret that there is no mad rush to the rtx cards.

they are making robots (yeah yeah) a yawner for me like most of the time but you geeks might like it

I think this whole gen for nvidia was just to push out new tech in the same way that AMD originally launched the fury with hbm it's a proof of concept to see if it catches on and makes a difference. All the rtx cards atm are side grades when looking at performance per dollar with added rtx capabilities I dont think they intended to sell alot or make alot ot money on this series. I would not be surprised if they decide rtx isnt worth it and drop it already.

Definitely not getting dropped, as it is the future. If they drop it now they'll just have to start it up again within 2 years, as ray tracing isn't going away, and will become the norm.

Only way ray tracing cores, or dedicated hardware for ray tracing, goes away, is if the tech in FP32 and INT32 performance drastically increases to the point dedicated hardware is no longer needed (borderline impossible) or if the dedicated hardware simply gets combined with the rest of the GPU and tasks not only on ray tracing but other parts of the game as well, getting rid of the "technical" dedicated hardware for ray tracing, even though it's still, also technically, there.

Next generations of nvidia GPUs will likely not have "some with RT cores, some without", unless it's a rebrand and low end GPU. If not by next generation, as i said likely, it's pretty much guaranteed by the generation after that.

I literally would be willing to bet my life savings on that, as nothing else makes sense.

Remember that time nvidia replaced and cut $250 off their high end single gpu card within 6 months?

yes but they had to cut prices of the 280 for only 1 reason....4870.they gave out rebates because people got so screwed
the 285 was a cheaper made refresh
now they are incohoots with amd and have been since 2009 on prices
