NVIDIA launches Tesla K40 with 12GB GDDR5

And someone will use this for gaming just because its expensive..

 

With no video output...good luck using it for gaming. This is purely a compute card. The GTX780Ti is based on the same chip btw....

For the education of myself and others who don't know, how does this work? Could you pair it effectively with AMD apu or even Intel integrated graphics? Does it work like a computational backbone to a limited VGA solution, or do you need to pair it with something like a 7970 or Titan? Thanks

It processes CUDA and OpenCL based GPGPU workloads. It doesn't do graphics, so the graphics output card, in reality, makes no difference. Unless NVidia has coded it's drivers otherwise.

 

You can pair it with any CPU and NVidia based GPU for computing workloads. Only way to use integrated graphics is by using it as a display adapter and the Tesla card for the workload.

 

So nothing Maxwell based then yet. Sigh. Oh well they'd price it at something stupid as hell now anyway that they artificially doubled prices. No video card for me this decade, a PS4 costs half as much as one.

Hah there are computer out there that dont even 12gb of system ram. I wonder how much nvidia would charge for a 12gb gpu actual im not sure i would want to know answer to that

I choose to buy ps4 instead of upgrade my pc, so i will be staying with my current build for another year or 2. By then there should cpu/mem/gpu that would run circles around what i have

 

These cards cost more than most of us spend on our computers.... These cards tend to make SLI'd Titans look cheap. To give you an idea....the entry price of the HP branded Tesla K20 is $2423.95 from B&H....and the NVidia branded Tesla K20 is $3499.99 from Newegg.

The original G80 based Tesla card was $2500 as well. Can't deny the fact that these cards are computing monsters and depending on the task, are well worth the asking price. The Maxwell based models should be even better....but this is a market that NVidia rightfully owns and for damn good reasons.

Long as people are willing to pay the prices....NVidia will keep raising them.

 

I thought the AMD one (even 7970 based) was faster in terms of raw compute performane in many apps...

 

I cant remember for the life me but a website I come a cross boasted that Firepro S10000 performers better than the K20 and the K20x. But I hope someone can confirm this.

 

a very steady hand can fix that most have the spots on the PCB for the outputs of coruse u need more then just then the output but every little damn smd component as well.... there is also Tesla Workstation ones I have seen where it does have an output on it as well but I never found them on nvidias site so :3eyes:
