Interesting video here from NVidia about it: DLSS 2.3 & How It Keeps Learning

The interesting thing about it seems to be that, in some cases, the DLSS produced image is better than native traditional rendering of a frame (of same resolution) because DLSS is able to take into account temporal information about other motion frames to improve the current frame quality!

That's also what temporal supersampling/upsampling does without DL. Though DLSS' neural network can do it much better than hand-tuned heuristics, causing less blur etc. Then it also suppresses texture shimmering well enough to allow usage of negative texture LOD bias, which makes textures look better vs. native resolution without bias (if the game developer implements it properly).

DLSS is no longer a proof of concept. We already know that it "works".
What they need to do now is to step up the game and teach devs how to properly implement it while avoiding pitfalls.
So that when looking at the image quality in a particular game we can say: DLSS looks great period. Without any buts and exceptions.

Yeah, DLSS 2.3 quality looks better on my 4k display than native res, also image is less blurry than with TAA, and performance is better up to around 20%, its great.
DLSS 2.3 balanced brings about the same image quality as native res (as least on my display) but offers around 45% better performance.

Just wish they would add DLSS for AC Valhalla already. :O

DLSS is just too good. I don't really care about ray tracing, but dlss is a must.

DLSS on Farming Simulator. What a time to be alive.

Cool, just getting a card to utilize it is impossible, unless you empty your bank account.

Its sad that farming simulator needs an upscaling. Nvidia this days...

Yeah, silly Nvidia giving their customers higher fps and better graphics at the same time. How dare they.

It should run pretty good natively and no it does not look better with dlss.

And you think you can judge this without seeing it on your own screen? I don't think so. Yes, some implementations are bad. Not DLSS' fault though (apart from a few questionable versions perhaps), it's brilliant in lots of games and there are objective criteria why it is so. No matter how hard you don't want it to be true...

Farming Simulator shouldn't have any need for DLSS. Its graphics are as basic as they come, and you could easily crank out 60fps at 4K with a mid-tier GPU. So, either they have massively improved fidelity, or they gimped it for some inexplicable reason. None of the in-game videos nor screenshots posted thus far suggest any visual improvement. I guess we'll find out on Monday.

What does that have to do with Nvidia? It's not like they programmed the game to run like crap.

The advantages of DLSS vs. traditional TAA are valid in every game (well, unless something is screwed up and the DLSS result is just broken). There is no such a thing as "better AA is not needed". The same goes for "better performance is not needed".

True, but the video they showed has the game running below 60fps without DLSS, which is something it never did, no matter the AA. So there obviously is a need for DLSS to even make it run at a good framerate. Ergo, something is up.

Anyway, not denying that having ubiquitous support for DLSS is a good thing, I'm all for it. I use it extensively whenever offered and have found it to be of an acceptable quality.

They tried to do it on Watch dogs: legion. They failed miserably. It is absolutely trash performance. Could be my old CPU, but other games that have DLSS gives a nice boost on 4K regardless of quality setting. Heck, even the HDR on PC version of their games is bad. Ubisoft could not care more about the problem. The patchs doesn't fix anything..

DLSS can't give you more performance than simply rendering at lower resolution. When performance doesn't scale, you're either getting CPU bound (well possible in WD Legion with old CPU) or the game's performance scales very poorly with lowering resolution while still being entirely GPU bound (very common for poorly optimized Ubisoft titles). Ampere GPU arch can also be harder to fully utilize at lower resolutions than Turing/RDNA2.

Exactly. Game looks like something GTX 10 series should run without a hitch. We are talking about RTX 30 series and upscaling to mantain higher fps. This is not the first game lately that runs like an ass without dlss. Will dlss be mandatory in the future to play games with gpus like 4090? What a joke.

No wonder nvidia users are crying when game does not support it or have fsr instead :D
