Nvidia has released a new video for its Hairworks middleware that enables developers to simulate and render fur/hair to provide a truly interactive game experience. FYI, the video features some animal...

That is the reply to TressFX I suppose . Looks fantastic and should be well optimized.

Not sure why they wanna call it Hairworks. This should be a part of Gameworks.

Everything like WaveWorks, FaceWorks, FlameWorks etc. all falls under GameWorks.

While im not the biggest supporter of the gpu makers, it does take time to design and make things like this. No point in making it work, but having it difficult to implement for developers.

COD Ghosts used it on the dog, kinda pointless though as you cant tell unless you act like one and stick your face in its arse.

Though if you want to use examples like the ones you have, then the same could be done with UE4.

yeah i never knew it was in ghosts until they mentioned it.

what disappoints me is people saying gpus are powerful enough and dont need upgrading. thats cos all these fur, collision, destruction and all those other fancy smancy stuff, is not being actually implemented. just talked about.

The way i see it, is that even if it is implemented, the game isnt always going to be good. Im over the upgrade cycle that Doom3 - Crysis started, so i could less if its been used yet or not, im more interested if the game itself is any good.

but that fancy smancy stuff could actually be part of the story line, i mean imagine is a wall had to be destroyed to block a passage or if someone had to diverge a river to flood a town, all in real tim, dynamic maps, instead of having it pre scripted or pre rendered scene (as it happens in most of todays games). maybe they need to get a bit more creative and push it harder. i guess some developers are a bit cautious cos sometimes it may be seen as unnecessary. look at crysis, amazing visuals, but people bashed it cos their rigs could not run it. the game wasnt bloated, just ahead of its time

Metro Last Light did it pretty well ;)
The only problem with that is it'd have to be simple enough for low end systems to be able to run with ease which would look worse then what you can get away with pre-scripted. With new consoles/hardware and new engines like UE4 we might be able to push that boundary though!

    That's the problem.

GPU Makers just waffle on about REZ/AA/FPS.

When ppl actually want to see some new fx, something new and exciting.

Spets - NOOO please dont pin hopes on the new consoles, i mean they cant even do full hd at 60fps, all these new features is a big no no. but i understand what you mean with lower end systems being able to run it. if a game had all those features, only those with the highest end system would be playing it

(.)(.) - (boobs???) we need MOAR POWER!!!!!!!!

anyway guys, im off to sleep. see ya all tomorrow

Nice, a mix of old videos allready seen 1000times ( a big laugh with the introduction of demo from Nvidia who have 4years now ) , + ghost + witcher 3 presentation we have allready seen 100 times .... they have not find anything new to show us about Hairworx ?

They better have to got at least the hero of Witcher3 who got his hair who use Hairworx, and not only monster and wolfs this time.

Oh boy! Realistic hair and fur with massive performance hits! Just what I've always wanted in a game.

All I could think when playing Skyrim is "this game would be so much better if there was realistic fur". Now my dreams have become a reality. :bang:

well, if they pay enough perhaps they will use it on the hero. Not everyone wants their game permanently crippled on almost half the gaming gpus out there (see: Batman Arkham origins).

Unless of course there is a nice upfront bonus.
