NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 and 3080 Specifications Leak

According to rumors, Nvidia will not be offering 20gb versions of the 3080. But that they have allowed their AIB partners the option to offer it.

 

The memory situation is definitely very weird. But, we might see a 3080 Ti, a 3080 FE, and a 3080 Super. So, each of those could fill the gap.

The power consumption is a little suspicious, but all they're providing is boost clocks. TDP is often measured by base clock (since that's the performance level you're supposed to be guaranteed) so I wouldn't be surprised if the base clock is more like 1700MHz for the 3090.

 

To those complaining about 300W power requirements - I previously owned dual-GPU cards - Radeon HD 5970 (294 W TDP) and Radeon HD 7990 (375 W TDP). And that was on a X57 and 42nm i7 920 and later i7 970 CPU - the entire thing was pulling over 500-600W at least.

 

3070 may also come with 16gb variant (for marketing purposes), to ensure no lost sales due to ppl who dont think 8gb is enough for the 3070. Again, possibly to be offered by AIB partners.

Cant wait for direct testing of the 8 vs 16gb and the 10 vs 20gb cards. Everybody thinks Nvidia didnt think this through, that 8 and 10gb cards will fail vs higher vram versions. If it does, it will be the most monumental mistake Nvidia has achieved, I seriously doubt they are that stupid to allow such an occurrence. Pretty sure they have thought this through. 3 weeks to go and we will know.

 

The problem with people talking about these 3070 16gb and 3080 20gb is the insane cost it will be to jump that much in vram. The 3070 16gb version might cost more than a 3080 10gb. Which somewhat defeats the purpose.

I do doubt for most people vram will be an issue. Clearly 3070 is not made for 4k where you could see these issues. Older games it will be fine on but future games it won't be possible on a high mid range card.

I can only assume the game between the 80 and 90 is for a super or ti version or maybe even both we will find out more on the 1st most likely

 

I considered XSX. Would they come with 20GB of GDDR6 enabling full speed through entire capacity, I would likely buy it as my 1st gaming console.
(Dev kits have 40GB at full speed.)

I am fine with 10GB VRAM. If there is more and comes with bandwidth, it will make me happier.

 

People are saying how amd 7nm isnt much more efficent than nvidia 12nm and now here comes the ampere 7nm looking like a fermi 2.0. It will be interesting if amd cards become more indeed better this time around.

For the power, nvidia 2000 series is more energy efficient then amd 5000 series. And yes, nvidia used 12nm whereas amd used 7nm.

Now nvidia ia making a 7nm product with likely better efficiency, but they are also releasing higher powered cards, and that somehow makes it not efficient suddenly? Doesn't make sense thats not how efficiency works. You could have a 1000 watt GPU and comparatively speaking it could be the most efficient GPU out there.

Max Wattage useage does not have anything to do with efficiency....

 

I miss the days when new GPUs actually gave like 100-200% performance boosts every 2 years while keeping costs the same. 8800GTS320 that I paid $280 for in late 2007, to a $220 GTX 260 216-core in 2009, getting like +80% more performance. Then 3 years later getting a $200 GTX 560 which was like +200% performance. That is how things used to be and why PC gaming was known for "you have to upgrade every year!" - you didn't HAVE to upgrade, it is just that the technology was moving so fast that you wanted to upgrade that often, and you typically more than doubled your VRAM each time. The way GPUs are priced these days is a joke.

wow that 3080 looks to be not more than 20% faster than a 2080ti if it goes for 800 should be just decent. Hopefully big navi means same performance as a 3080 at less the price.

 

This assumed 3080 has exact same number of SMs as 2080 Ti. 1 less GB of ram and higher memory bandwidth.
Boost clock is similar to what AIBs deliver for 2080Ti.
It will mainly benefit from changes in architecture.

 

The more I read it now, the more it reminds of 8800GTS 320MB vs 640MB as 3080RTX and 8800GTX 768MB as 3090RTX.

Back then I had a 8800GTS 320MB and it just got real by GTA3, could only use low, medium/high only once I got more system ram lol

 

I would be very interested in an aio-gpu for those, I would like a way to exhaust that heat out of the case rather than cook my ram, cpu, vrm,chipset etc...
with that kind of power figures having one in my cpu loop is out of the question
p.s. my 1080ti with msi afterburner % sliders to the right already is 310-320Watts running Kombustor

 

The RTX 3070 is very enticing to me. It will be a huge upgrade over my 1070. I don't need more than 8GB of Vram because I don't own a monitor that is 4K or have a higher refresh rate monitor. I am going Zotac this time around if they release a 3070 mini.

You don't know what you are talking about. Both the PS5 and Series X don't have access to all 16GB of their shared RAM. Part of the 16GB of their shared RAM is set aside for the OS. In case of the Series X part of the 16GB of RAM is set aside for some audio stuff that MS has planed.

 

I really hope they don't release a 3060 with only 6gb of vram. 8gb should be the minimum for all 3000 series cards.

This 3070 and 3080 is just sad. My 980Ti is already choking on 6GB at 1080. 8-10GB is lame for next gen gpus that are 3 generations beyond mine..

 

Do you know the difference between an event announcement and a hard launch? Guess which one we will see the reviews on. If you dont know, then I wouldnt throw the word clown around.
