updating to this driver via Geforce experience caused my games to crash/lockup

tried on BF V, BF1 and Farcry 5

uninstalling, and doing DDU fixed it

Im on an Asus Strix 1080Ti

You should know what we're talking about before you write.

Yep according to release notes. Apart from that only 2 fixed issues:

    - performance drops in half when moving from 16c/32t CPU to 32c/64t
    (so Threadripper thing basically)
    - driver won't install correctly on some C2D / C2Q systems

    unless some hidden magic, pass.

FYI power monitoring stutter still listed as open issue.

Power monitoring and PLX issue are fixed in the 400 series drivers.

These seem to perform ok. But the 398.11s look waaaaay nicer for me. Way better visuals and color quality.

How exactly would drivers from branches so close, if not the same, change how games look? You sure it's not an RGB colour thing?

Well, I always use the exact same settings. And I noticed easily that I prefer the 398.11s. Textures seem crisper, and lighting seems more vivid... at least in Insurgency Sandstorm. I am mostly playing Insurgency Sandstorms beta atm. And I use ShadeFX for Sandstorm. All settings exact. The only difference being the driver version. Tried the newer drivers, and went back to the 398.11s. Hoping we get a nice set eventually, but will stick with these for now.

The only time I saw IQ decrease or differences in drivers was when I tried Quadro drivers for a while - seemed like certain lighting & effects was missing from Skyrim when using Quadro drivers - this was way back in 2009 I think. (I had a Geforce laptop and was experimenting with all sorts of drivers). I never noticed differences in IQ using Geforce drivers throughout the last 10 years - makes me think you're under placebo.

I was still confused on this bug. I read somewhere [forgot the source] that this is a Windows 10 related problem with the Power Management.

I don't know if it's just a Windows 10 bug or not, but I'm on Windows 10 so I just have to assume that the power monitoring can cause microstutter. If you want to know the specifics about the bug, the details are listed in the Driver Release Notes that you can download from NVidia (it's on a separate tab when you go to download the NVidia driver from their website).
