Dead right. Blurbusters is a fantastic resource. I've spent hours reading their material. Once I fully understood exactly what was going on, I turned Vsync on globally in the NVCP and never looked back.
If a game has its own Vsync setting, I always leave that off just to ensure no weird shenanigans, even if it makes no obvious difference. Have never had a problem since.

edit: they really could have changed the name for "Vsync" with VRR. The baggage that word brings with it from the past is just too powerful to overcome, heh.

This is what i was referring to in my original comment on using vsync global with freesync

My screen is Asus TUF VG249 144hz 1ms IPS (range 48-144)

So thanks to @Ohmer and @Mineria for helping get the info out properly, I suck at that xD @Rogerbee Kudos to you too buddy

That's exactly what I do. The only time I do different is with 3DMark, that doesn't like it if you have vsync on, so I tell NVCP to turn it off in the program settings.

hah You don't tell me nothing what i do, that decision is all mine.
    Gigabyte Monitor 1ms - 1920 x 1080 165hz with vSync on , never a problem.

The perfect games I've found to know whether you're suffering screen tear is Quake 3/Live. More so the fact Quake 3 will apparently hit 1000fps. Quake Live I think is limited to 250. Crysis 2 is also good at showing if you suffer screen tear.

Well I finally went with the dch driver. Worked just fine on my old 1060 6gb and is currently working fine on my new 3060 12gb

Though I don't use 3DMark anymore, yep, I do the same for benchmarking. Should have added, also use RTSS frame limiting for gaming (Blurbusters again for the full explanation) except for a couple of edge cases that misbehave with it running.
Have around 100 3D Apps/Games that work flawlessly with these settings, so a couple of outliers are hardly worth mentioning.

WoW is another game where it is pretty easy to spot, especially with high fps.

Also worth mentioning that v-sync enabled globally helps when g-sync is used while the monitor is set to max frequency while the game is capped to much lower fps, it's for those other games/apps where fps does not have any cap and jumps above or where some in-game video /render clip pushes it higher.

Also worth noting, when G-Sync is enabled and a low framecap is in use it does not make even a tiny difference if V-Sync is ON or OFF, it does not add any form of latency, it simply can't.

Edited since I worded it wrongly.

    Quick question peeps...

If using RTSS to frame cap at 142fps, can I still use 'Background Application max frame rate' in NVCP to limit background apps to 60fps without it causing a conflict with RTSS?

    All input is appreciated ;)

Yeah the Blur buster forum blows my mind at times. First time i went there when looking for a new monitor after my old monitor from 2011 died, i had no idea it was all so complex, and it's all pretty hard to understand aswell, the difference between monitors, VA/TN/IPS/OLED..I spend days reading their forums trying to get a grasp of it all. Chief is also an amazing and kind guy and super helpful to people with questions.

create a profile for a game in rtss and then the nvidia settings should easily work.

Did it look like bit depth was reduced?? I'm having this issue VERY rarely. I think I have pictures.

It could be my stupid RAM overclock, idk. Most testers out there are either paid or they suck.

Primary monitor is fine. Fixed after using CRU's restart64.exe

How does vsync helps if using gsync is tear free by itself? It just adds latency.

Clean/replace cables/connectors. If no go, pull back of display, inspect reseat connectors. check psu for it.
