It's random but not immediate. Dead Island: Riptide , I changed turned FXAA on and limited to 120 fps and it starts out OK - a solid 120. I only noticed it last night when my top SLI GTX 570 started running at 100% as it had hit 95C. I normally use a constant 80% fanspeed for that game. Bringing the OSD back up, it was running at full tilt.
In terms of time, I can't say exactly as I minimise the OSD usually.

It was a clean install of the beta and I'm using Precision 4.2.0 and RivaTuner Statistics Server 5.3.2

It's weird because I can't think of any reason the limit should first be applied and then become unlimited...

I corrected myself in a later post saying 3-4 years. I remembered reading in a wiki the GTX 5 series was supposed to come on a year earlier so I said 5. Geeze, you guys never let anything go. When someone corrects themselves you usually go with the later statement, not beat a dead horse.

If anybody needs an account locked, it's people who threaten others like yourself with the whole account locking idea over a simple mistake.

BTW logic does not fail me.

It's LOGIC that Nvidia/AMD will cater the new cards with enhancements before older series. It does not matter how many GTX 4/5 series are in use. Both companies will support the newer hardware first. It's always been this way since the voodoo days, which I remember clearly.

AMD did it with the HD 7 series with HD 6/5. Now Nvidia is clearly making enhancements/fixes for the GTX 7 series first and foremost.

I never said it was right, but people still try to ignore this fact and deny it, then get overly defensive.

Also it's not MY logic, it's just how things are. It's how these companies work. I'm sorry some of you can't cope with it. Sure it sucks for owners of older series of cards, but its the reality of it.

Everything may run fine for you, but the fact is the game utilizes more than 2GB of video memory at Ultra. Your cards are able to unload textures etc fast enough to keep up. It does not mean others will not have an issue though with single cards.

2GB cards are "enough", but are starting to become the very limit in new games coming out if gamers are wanting to "max" them out, even at 1080p.

After the last round of Windows 8 updates, SLI no longer functions properly with these drivers, so I had to downgrade to the 327.23 drivers.

I hope the next beta drivers are better..

The 600 series does yes, but optimization and fixes have slowed down for 400/500, thus the issues people are having.

You all act like I'm bashing your hardware, and I'm not. Just handing out the reasons why some members' hardware is having issues with new drivers. I can't help people cannot handle the truth behind it.

Yes it sucks to deal with, AMD users did it for months until HD 7 series was "okay" with stability/performance.

Sometimes challenges arise, and this is just another.

Did you try reinstalling the driver after the updates? I game with people who run SLI in windows 8 with the latest updates just fine on this driver.

If you haven't I would try to do a clean install after the updates. I find it odd SLI would just disappear.

OK I made a mistake, it wasn't the drivers..

Over at Anandtech we were all doing the Valley benchmark. I had my GPUs at 1280/8ghz, but during the test runs one of my cards was getting lower utilization than the other, lowering the scores.

I thought it was a bad SLI bridge, so I changed it out, ran the benchmark again but the problem still occurred. I also ran the benchmark at stock settings and the problem still persisted. Then I uninstalled the drivers and it seemed to fix the problem.

So that's why I thought it was the drivers. However, I ran the benchmark with overclocked settings again using the 327.23 drivers and the same problem occurred. That's when I knew it had to be the memory overclock.

So I installed the 331.40 beta drivers again but with the memory running at 7.97ghz instead of 8ghz, and it ran smooth and problem free! :)

Apparently the high memory overclock was causing the drivers to become unstable and screw up the SLI functionality.

I thought both my cards could run 8ghz memory, but I guess not. These are the 4GB cards, so I guess I should be lucky to even hit 7.97ghz, as it's hard to overclock the 4GB cards than the 2GB ones.

any chance that nvidia will add AO support for nba 2k14 pc? we all know that nba 2k14 PC is hit all year.. maybe if they will make AO for nba 2k14 pc, most pc gamer will buy nvidia cards instead of ATi lol.

If that is the model Nvidia intends to follow then they need to create a legacy driver and stop updating 3+ years old cards in the driver for newer hardware.

You listed AMD as an example of a similar problem and they separated support for pre-dx11 cards after the release of the 7 series. With the problems Nvidia is having they may need to do the same and more.

what is this nonsense that it's only logical and acceptable that Nvidia supports the latest and newest cards first and foremost ? this is unacceptable, so we need buying the last Nvidia card every 7 months just to make sure the drivers aren't broken ?

Nvidia fanboys praising and accepting this stuff are responsible for what we got, not everyone can buy a new card every year just to make sure the drivers are stable and compatible with most software, this is nonsense, Nvidia sells a wide range of cards and each and everyone of them should be treated equally as customers paid with the same money to them, stop making distinctions here.

    Every 7 months?

Series 4 and 5 are very close together, technically, just like 6 and 7 are. Consider how old 4-series cards are now.

Now buy anything else that is as old and check how well it'll cope with something that requires very recent updates. Maybe a Blu-Ray player, maybe a smartphone? See how much "support" you'd get there.
Years ago we actually did upgrade every 6 months in order to stay "on top", all the time. Now? Maybe every two years, without SLI and without using the top-top-top model every time.

After switching to Windows 8.1 (from W7) and DICE's 3 patches, BF4 performance is now up to par with BF3 for me.

No more stuttering, steady framerate throughout, ALOT smoother then before.

    Very pleased!

Trying to find a way of fixing all these driver crashes on the NVIDIA forums..

    Then it did the thing....

331.40 BETA are officially THE WORST video card drivers I have ever used.... EVER.

Have you considered lowering a setting or two since you're maxing out your vram?

What happens when you run the GPU at stock clocks? With that ugly color scheme I might stop working too...ha ha....

I don't overclock the card anymore... it is stock everything.

The video card is perfect ////// The driver is not.

The video card is an EVGA GeForce GTX 460 1024MB 01G-P3-1370-TR

If I go back to the 314.22 WHQL.. perfect, everything is perfect.

I've been doing the BF4 Beta, so I got these new beta drivers and have been using them since the day of their release.. and they are just horrid... absolutely horrid drivers. I've never used such a horrible driver before.. they are even worse in comparison to the early Fermi drivers... and those drivers were very bad.

    --

Fresh install Windows 7 + 331.40 Random crashing

Fresh install Windows 8 +331.40 Same problems, and after a driver crash if I lock the computer [Windows Key + L] ... when the screen turns off my pc crashes and restarts by itself.

    --

Fresh install Windows 7 + 314.22 Perfect, But cannot play BF4.

Fresh install Windows 8 + 314.22 Perfect, But cannot play BF4.

I think HeavyHemi is referring to reference 460 clocks, try running the GPU clock at 675mhz and see if it still happens. If it does stop crashing then it's because the card is no longer stable at the overclock EVGA has applied to it.

It happens to my 580 matrix and I have to raise my GPU voltage from 1.038v to 1.050v to make it stable.

I don't see how a video card that has run perfectly fine for almost 2 years would need to be under-clocked below it's stock clock after installing a beta driver that was specifically released for a specific video game and crashes not when playing said video game.. Although BF4 crashes for it's own reasons.. Crashing from simple tasks like.. Going to NVIDIA.com using Internet Explorer 10

Don't suggest Turn off Hardware Acceleration... I know okay... It is off... for Internet Explorer it is Off, Google Chrome, Off, Waterfox, Off.

Just installed 327.23 WHQL and have so far had no system crashes

media player classic (version 1.7) + windows 8.1 preview = Sketchy at times.
now we can double framerate with the player it stresses the gpu twice as much so yeah, perhaps win8.1 and latest mpc player need some extra love.
