    Another new driver, CUDA 11.6.0 package

    https://developer.download.nvidia.c...cal_installers/cuda_11.6.0_511.23_windows.exe

    Edit 1:
    Driver have new option in CPL for enabling DLDSR on RTX line gpus, so a day faster if you want to try new option.

    Branch progression:
    511.23 --> r511_04-9
    511.17 --> r511_04-5
    511.09 --> r511_04-3

    Also interesting if the sheduled next day driver would have DLDSR better tweaked, somehow?

    Edit 2:
    @OniKeaton has stripped the CUDA SDK and made 511.23 a standard NVIDIA driver release compressed to 591MB. Big thanks.

    Includes DLDSR. I don't like it too much, result looks a bit artifical and textures oversharpened. Waiting for DLSS > 2.3 with less/no smearing, or XeSS...

    Is DL DSR accesable via old control panel or GFE, or inspector?

    Old panel. You could already see that with the screenshot provided by Nvidia in their blog post.

    DLDSR doesn't seem to work for me, same performance and same iQ as old "legacy" DSR (yes I selected the new 2 DL options in control panel). I will see if the tomorrow drivers behave the same...

    Similar to NIS before, for games that don’t offer Exclusive Full Screen mode , you can set the resolution of your windows desktop equal to in-game resolution, which will enable DL-DSR in Games with "fake" Full Screen mode as for example in games like Forza Horizon 5 or Halo Infinite.

    It may require updates to NGX which aren't pushed with this driver just yet.

    In which games ? I tested this with Elder Scrolls Online, since it is the only game I have installed that works well with DSR (with an RTX 3090 in Windows 11).

    Works for me as well in Desktop, Tales of Arise, and ME3 Legendary on 4k 144Hz monitor. Severe fps drop using 2.25x though, which isn't as advertised. Or maybe they meant using 1080p monitors?

    GFE recognizes this driver as a GeForce Game Ready Driver. upload_2022-1-13_22-24-0.png

    Once you realize what DLDSR is trying to achieve, it all makes sense.

    Imagine using DSR versus DLDSR both at 2.25x. The internal game resolution(no matter if its fhd or 4k) will be 2.25 times higher. The difference between the two technologies however, is the downsampling method used. DSR is most likely a simple bicubic downsampler, whilst DL DSR has something else going on behind its curtains. Nvidia did not disclose what they are doing, they just said "oh yeah this uses the new tech in the rtx cards to do this" and showed us a picture where downsampling from 1620p with dldsr looks like its doing a better job at removing jagged edges against a bicubic(DSR) downsampling method going as high as 2160p. The fps difference in their picture is because one is running internally at 2160p whilst the other at 1620p. They didn't try d to put it head to head at the same resolution against the normal DSR because it was never meant to beat it in terms of performance. I'd like to think of the new DLDSR more like a "smart" downsampler, which is aware of whats going on on screen and how to downsample the imagine better than the legacy bicubic method.

    They advertised in the only image they posted that DLDSR 2.25X has the same performance as native (minus a few frames), it's not the case here: the performance is the same as old DSR with the same resolution, and IQ is also similar, for me at least.

    I suspect and hope that the DLDSR options in this driver are only placeholders and operates infact legacy DSR, we'll see that later today with the new driver.
