MineDojo is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) program created by NVIDIA that can play Minecraft. To teach MineDojo how to play Minecraft, the devs analysed over 730,000 YouTube videos, 7,000 wiki pages,... NVIDIA Artificial Intelligence plays Minecraft, and wins a prize (but needed 750 GPUs)
Ah, it id not win a prize for being so good at Minecraft, but their work for putting that AI into a working status. I got that wrong in the first place.
Honestly this is kinda funny, because for so many years, the meme meant "is the GPU powerful enough so I can play Crysis" but now it's "can a GPU be powerful enough so it can play Crysis". Now I actually want to see this happen.
If skynet turns up imagine how much more fun it would be to fit physical, non software controllable off switches and turn em off with nerf guns... Cut the power and on the pub for lunch
If ever skynet becomes a thing, it will end up being a edgelord, "gamer", wannabe "knowitall" ala elon cu**k; who thinks he can solve everything (maybe this time IT does have the "capabilities" to do so) but is too good to allow to the peasants to have a bit of its all mighty mercy, so IT will just spend time solving super duper sweet memes like penis diameter to women ratio or the likes ala silicon valley series.
An awful lot of time and effort just to teach it to play a single game. Imagine then military funding/spending effort into teaching it how to kill you more effectively. Maybe they could teach it to be an expert at Battlefield?
What happened to "let's teach it to look for signal anomalies and do some SETI", or "let's teach it to fold cancer protein". Not that such studies (the latter in particular) wouldn't happen already, but I find it highly interesting that you can win an academic prize with "I teach my PC to play a game on it's own" without any practical impact or applyability in the end.
So you need 1 low end GPU to run Minecraft and 750 more for your PC to play Minecraft ! That's too heavy I will keep playing the games my self for the time being !
Minecraft is immensely more complicated than killing tho. Stab em with the pointy end. Now this is just asking for it, smh.
That means we need just 100x more performance to have our pocket SkyNets at our home PCs. Thats not that far away IMHO
