  1. HAHA! I literally was like "ohhh now what will power the monitor" heh-heh thanks friend but I actually found a Quadro 4000 lying around lol!
Lmao! so true... "it was in this moment as K.S. watched the Ampere twitch announcement stream with tears of agony & joy that he knew... he only had 15 possibly 25 minutes to sell his 2080 TI... and there was no time for goodbyes... " :(

It does get closer than any current known GPU, and sometimes dropping a few settings that arent too noticeable can help in that regard. The issue with the card is the high price tag when the 3080 seems quite close in performance. the 24gb VRAM is very overkill unless games massively change how VRAM is currently used.

I don't think its unimportant but price/performance goes right out of the window with it, I can only hope there is a middle card inbetween the two that has less VRAM, less cores but less price to counteract that.

Will wait for RNDA2 to see what happens price/performance wise with all the cards, and maybe rumours might come out about a 3080 super or 3080ti at some point to fill that void.

Didn't watch the stream not that up on the exact details so these are just thoughts based on what little information I have absorbed in passing.

If the new cards are so much more efficient as they are claiming, why do they require an entirely new power connector designed to provide them with more power?

Also does anyone want to buy two newer than I would like to admit 2070supers in the very near future?

    3080 will have ~2x performance of 2070S 8gb.
    3070 will have ~2x performance of 2060 6gb...

This performance jump is quite interesting. You can play really well!

Go through all games benchmarked and make your calculations. :p:D

A hard fact is 3070 will destroy 2080ti in 1080p and 1440p. In 4k they will trade blows, perhaps due to inferior vram that they installed on 3070.

Simply put if you play at 4k, 3080 is the only solution. If you need to test run 8k, 3090 is the absolute next gen move.

Below 4k, 3070 will sale like hotcakes, it has the correct amount of power for now.:rolleyes:

It's neater. That's all I can come up with. I doubt it was a need for power that pushed for 12pin as we have 3x8pin for example. But it's so much tidier.

They don't need the new connector, the new 12 pin is just a way to join 2x8 pin into a smaller one, it´s the same 300W.

Most AIB cards will come out with the traditional 2x8 pin and that is enough. Only some higher tier models focused on more heavy OC will bring 3x8 pin or two new 12 pin if the AIB wants to.

In presentation, there is slide with 3080 parameters and 3090 die shot right next to it. From that, it is clear that nV is not hiding any extra IMC capability in 3090. And 3090's chip has 84 SMs in total, therefore just 2 are locked out for yields. And that means, we should expect GPU with SM count between 3080 and 3090.
(Btw, is this their way to say that 3080 is same die as 3090?)

If it is so, then there can be 3080 Super/Ti that has 11/12GB of VRAM and similar number of SMs.

Efficiency doesnt figure in selecting a new power connector.
Its down to power use and PCB space.
More power can be used and it be more efficient, they arent mutually exclusive.

Noticed both 3070 and 3080 missing NVLINK. (MSI 3070 and 3080 spec also says N/A on NVLINK)
3090 cost 1 943,07 USD where I live so no go (They should have just called it a Titan at that price, but there always someone with burning wallets I guess)^^

Will wait to see if 3080Ti gets released next year, not buying something with less memory than I have already.
3080Ti with 352bit Memory Bus and 12 to 16GB memory will overclock much better.
3090 with 384bit Memory Bus and half (12GB) memory would work too I guess^^

Anyone have any info on the 20gb release date for 3080, or if that's even going to happen? I have a 4k120 LG tv and want this card for 3 years. 10gb is kinda sad. Already ran into texture loading problems on multiple games at 4k with 2080. 10GB is just dumb as a match for the power. Also, we know what happens over time when console Vram goes up....I realize not all of the 16gb in the consoles is dedicated VRAM (some is for background OS tasks). Regardless, 10gb will present issues over the next few years.

I've not seen anything to indicate there are upcoming double memory versions other than wishful thinking.
I dont mind being wrong, I just havent come across it yet.

Going off of Digital Foundry's 3080 Testing (Richard tested it in their most recent vid today I believe) these gains are indeed quite significant. I would love to upgrade to Ryzen 4000 (Zen 3) when it launches + either the 3070/3080 + a 4K G-Sync panel, but alas it's not in my budget at the moment. I can only afford to upgrade every couple years and had to last year due to my PC hardware failing so it's a regrettable pass this gen. On the upside 4K panels will hopefully only get cheaper given more time.

Oh so from what ive read, each core can do INT+FP, FP+FP vs previous generation of INT+ FP only? Its still 2 core inside but only one when doing specific operations?
