You may be right, but just throwing in what some of the leaks had stated and is why I said "supposedly" and not definitely.

Tom doesn't have any real leaks, he made up the DLSS 3.0 crap and tensor cores aren't even capable of the feature he claims as tensor compression.

Amperes compression changes is specifically for L2 data.

I've skipped the past two generations, as 1xxx didn't offer enough of a performance increase over the 980ti TRI-SLI I had back then, and 2xxx was way too expensive. Well, one 980ti died, and driver support for TRI-SLI has been cut anyway, so I might upgrade at last. To what will be decided by benchmarks and pricing. My PSU will cope no matter what. For the three 980ti I needed 3x 2x8 pin, so even if the 3090 wants 3x8 pin my 1700W PSU can handle two of them.

That guy was winging it so hard until the point where (maybe) he got some actual leaks. Everything he says feels pulled out of his *ss, or just logical deductions that any long-time hobbyist might have.

That about sums it up. This seems to be like throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks, then they can claim to have been correct about whatever turns out to be vaguely accurate. It's pure snake oil.

Even a 3080 would be a big leap in performance from my 1080Ti
