Being collected to improve products I am using, fine with that
Being collected to share with 3rd parties, not so much (Unless you give me a cut of what you're making from doing that)

Telemetry in the driver does not bother me. It's Nvidia. They way more than likely just want to see WHY users are having issues and squash the bugs so they don't have to roll out hotfix drivers nearly as much.

I can't see Nvidia doing shady things to people.

IF this was some random app on apple/google play that was shady before it was installed...then I'd worry.

But again...this is Nvidia. They just want to squash bugs.

You do realize that lots of people use their PCs for more than just gaming or watching porn or visit Facebook??? Lots of people use their PCs, for example, to do some work!!! I know, it must mindblowing to you to realize that people actually use their computers to work!!! Those guys must have some kind of serious mental illness! And because of their work, thay can have important files in theis systems that they want to keep them away from curious eyes...

No to mention the possible implications of having organizations knowing every aspect of your life! I could explain some of them but i have better things to do than waste my time stating the obvious...

So the Nvidia statement just confirmed, the telemetry is included in Geforce Experience - that explains why i have no traces of it as i never used or installed this junk, now i wont install this crap ever for sure. :)

    Look 2 posts up.

    It is for error reporting.

People like you think that somehow these driver's are going to steal you SSN and bank account info... :infinity:

    That's paranoia.

And your example isn't even close to being comparable.

Telemetry for drivers is a good thing.

Many people aren't smart enough to explain how or what they did when an issue arose or they don't even bother to report the bug in the first place.

Therefore many bugs do not get fixed. This solves that.

It's the NSA trying to collect more information. Don't let them in.

Because if you tap the ISPs directly, it's the NVIDIA metadata you need. :infinity:

Windows 10 and just about every app includes telemetry these days, so I disable it whenever possible. I don't want or need this crap.

I found the Telemetry logs they are creating and they are just .txt files, but for the life of me i can't open them to read what's being collected.

I even tried to give myself full access to the logs but they are locked down so tight that it makes me suspect them even more.

    Found more info.

1107-18:05:27.577: Running NVIDIA crash and telemetry reporter version 23.0.10.0
    1107-18:05:27.577: Collecting SHIM...

    1107-18:05:37.264: finishTrace called

It's detecting whether or not you have VR headset.

God knows what Get Sugar is. The shim.log is too long to post here but they detect all games installed and do checks for Crash.dmps and VR and other devices, you can see everything they collect in that log and there's nothing to worry about.

They detect and log everything about the system but nothing about the person or persons using that system.

I could care less about telemetry...

This really didn't need its own thread.

    Lol what..

Thread has three pages and there clearly two different opinions on the topic. I feel like it definitely needed it's own thread. Maybe not in the news section but seems fine.

You posted in the wrong thread.
I think you mean "couldn't" also, otherwise you declared you care about telemetry.

We live in a slightly paranoid world and we are in the era of terrorism and governments' big brother programs and data collection for ad profits. This is exactly why you have to be open and clear when you implement telemetry services. You have to be 100% crystal clear on what exactly you collect, where the data go and how exactly you use them and offer a clear way to opt out. Nvidia chose to be shady and non informative. Just like with the Account requirement login for GFE to a program which worked perfectly fine before this change. What's behind this? Profit and only. Profit done with shady corporate politics. Firefox has telemetry and nobody ever complained because it is open and clear and has an easy clear way to opt out. Google also became more clear lately about the huge data they collect and they also offered many ways which you can somewhat control, download and stop many of them. People are mad when they find out shady things hidden under the carpet. Just like with Windows 10. We still don't know what exactly they collect and we may never find out. Now Nvidia decided to go the shady way too. Telemetry can help a lot with drivers stability and such if it used right open and clear.

dont have any of the installed, then again i dont isntall GFE and i manual extact all files from driver package and manual click setup, which for some reason avoids some there extra stuff seem to get install by using the driver package it self

    Physx and drivers only
