So i've been getting this nv4_disp error when i play games like WoW and CSS, pretty much all the games. What will happen is it will freeze, a sound will loop over and over again, and then it will either go to the error message, or i will alt tab back in and the textures will be all messed up.

I've googled the issue and have tried a few things. I came across this post and it really explains what the problem is and what can be tried.

    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=271542&page=4

    System specs are:
    8800GT
    500w PSU
    4GB OCZ RAM
    E6300 @ 1.86Ghz
    WinXP

I tried changing the memory timings, i've tried 4-4-3-15, 4-4-4-12, 5-5-5-15, no luck.

I've reinstalled the latest GFX card drivers several times, no luck.

I am currently running Prime95 and Memtest to see if they come up with any errors.

Does anyone have any ideas for me?

    Are you using OnBoard sound?
Have you tried other Nvidia Drivers? (Maybe try some tweaked Nvidia Drivers they tend to fix bugs that are present in standard drivers.)

What i would do is disable the sound card then try running games with no sound to see if that makes any diffrence.

Not all nv4_disp errors are caused buy Graphics drivers.

Soz I meant soundcard... if you have a Creative Soundcard the drivers can conflict with the nvidia drivers.

You can have a look in device manager it will tell you what soundcard/onboard you have...

You can either disable the sound card by :-

1, Uninstalling Sound Drivers (Add Remove Programs)
2, Boot into BIOS as you switch computer on by either pressing, Del, F1 or F2 and
    disable it in there.

I would probably disable it threw BIOS to make sure its completly disabled.

There's a couple of things in device manager, there are Legacy Audio Drivers, and a Realtek High Def Audio.

I'll try disabling it in BIOS.

    Ok.
First thing I'd do is what Archer said - disable your soundcard then see how it you go and take it from there.

If the lock-ups go away then you could look at irq conflict or driver conflict for starters...it may not even be the gfx drivers it could be the realtek drivers

Ok i'll try that, i was reading in the thread i linked about all the different things it could be, are you sure it's not a psu/memory/something else problem?

Do you have a different graphic card that you can try in your PC? Or maybe you can put your card in a friend's PC to make sure it's fine.

Could be a PSU issue, too. Have you tried using a different cable, to power your GPU?

    Are your load/idle temperatures fine?

What was the result of the Prime95 and Memtest tests that you mention in your first post?

I don't have another gfx card unfortunatly, but i will try it in a friends computer sometime in the near future.

What do you mean using a different cable, can i just buy this, which cable is it lol.

Load and idle are fine, never goes above 60c

Prime95 was fine, Memtest is running now.

Also you should try different gfx drivers as well, and make sure there's no trace of the old ones.

That error is a pain I know, I've had it twice before myself. First time was bad ram then the second time it was caused by my soundcard drivers....

Another thing I strongly recommend is to check and see what your PCI latency is for your soundcard (and your gfx card too even if it's pci.-e)

Also check for irq issues. Do you know how do do that?

Ok i'll try using an older driver.

As you can see from up a bit, i disabled the onboard sound so the soundcard shouldn't be the issue. I will be taking it in to a computer store, they can check the ram and the psu and whatever else.

How do i check my PCI latency for my soundcard/gfx card, and what is an IRQ issue?

182.50's did EXACTLY the same thing, i have removed em and installed the 185.68's and so far all is good.

the 182.50's were fine from when they first came out till 2 days ago..thats when I removed em..incidently, do you have a blu-ray/HD drive? if so, play a HD/Blu-ray and move the film on a bit, tell me if it eventually gives lip sync problems, so far the 182.50's are the only ones that have done that
