I agree with that. People always say that when it's done to the point of almost being voyeurism because if/when/what about you is being recorded without your knowing, intervention or inconvenience. It's almost depersonalized spying, like them not caring Amazon knows they ordered a hitachi wand massager, hemorrhoid cream and KY, but caring if the UPS man and the neighbors see the box it comes in.

Not everything flushed down the toilet needs to be DNA mapped and bomb/drug tested.

    But,

    Exactly.

I wouldn't compare the web to "outside" or "public" though, which is not saying people shouldn't be prepared to have their stuff broken into, but that's computer security related. I don't think I can know for a certainty what porn a pedestrian has been downloading the past week, that their dish washer repair parts are coming and they're considering using Nair on their junk- all just by seeing them walk down the street.

Regardless of who does it, it's called this:

Tell, you what - I'll come to your place and stand behind you and watch you do everything you do online and record it.

In addition to that, I'll make notes and comment on what you are doing, and then not disclose that information to you - because that's government business and you are not allowed to know what that is.

It should be okay, I mean, you're not doing anything wrong are you?

Keep paying taxes, please, so we can spend $billions on this stuff. Even though "terrorism" kills less people a year than bee stings, and certainly less than any number of illnesses people are plagued with. Of course, if there was any profit in curing people permanently, they'd do something about it.

There is more profit is sustaining an illness than curing it; much like there is more profit in sustaining a war than preventing one - added bonus is you get to increase the control on people and monitor what and how they spend their money.

This is great, because you can sell this information, manipulate this information (in real time) and use it to see if anyone is trying to f**k up your plans.

This information is more valuable than knowing the results of every lottery draw since the beginning of time and for every draw in the future.

With this information, you can not only understand what people are doing, you can understand what people are thinking - and how to change it, thereby changing the course of human history in any direction you want.

It's bio-statistical, econometrical, actuarial, geographical, multivariate information being processed at light speed by some of the fastest known (and unknown) computer system arrays ever designed.

Now, if this doesn't make you afraid, then keep paying taxes and watching reality-TV to numb your mind.

You're not doing anything wrong - and that's the mother-fracking point.

Like I said, there is a legitimate issue but people like you are screwing it all up by inventing fantasies and mucking the real issues.

1)- Your terrorism "kills less people than bee stings" is nonsense and is a complete obfuscation of the issue. The economic damage of bee stings is but a minor note in comparison to the social and economic damage of terrorism. You are lumping two completely different issues and then trying to draw out a comparison between them.

2)- You are also ignoring the fact that the low number of deaths can be directly attributed to programs like these which foil many terrorist attacks. Thus, because of the success of such programs they are being damned by people like you.

3)- The government has no mandated responsibility to cure viral diseases that mainly afflict third-world countries half way around the world. The government does have a mandate to provide peace and security for all her citizens however.

4)- You most certainly do not need this information to see what the public as a whole thinks about certain issues and to predict how they will respond. Behavioral science and political science deals with exactly that and do not need such an imaginary system in order to make accurate predictions.

5)- This stuff doesn't get processed at light speeds....

    6)-
Bull****. By saying something as despicable as that, you are basically claiming that every medical researcher and bio-scientist at these companies is purposely letting people die and not doing their outmost to cure as many diseases as possible. There is something seriously wrong with you for saying something like that.

Furthermore, the facts contradict you. When was the last time you saw someone get the measles, mumps, Smallpox, Polio, rubella, etc?

But of course, it's the evil corporations that invented these vaccines, so there must be a conspiracy behind it...

"I am not now nor have I ever planned any act of terror to be committed within the United States"
    is a far cry from
    "I have nothing to hide."

Everyone who things they have nothing to hide should upload a picture of themselves completely naked holding their social security card, credit cards, and drivers license. What's that, you have things to hide now?

Which in this case, I don't care. The only thing I do worry about is that what if said system is going to be used in the future for more profit oriented gain or other stuff.

It's not really what they're doing right now that bothers me, but it's the potential evil this thing could do if put in the wrong hands.

Put this thing in the hands of the RIAA for instance...

    1) It was analogous.

    2) You are ignoring the reason why these attacks occur.

    3) Mandated or not, it is the responsibility of all - and there is not one "The Government" there are many.

    4) It's not imaginary. This is why there are advertisements.

    5) Electrons travel at the speed of light.

    6) Medical research is funded. Those who fund it, want a return on their investment.

    7) I was referring to problems which exist, in all countries.

Thank you for using simile and not metaphor.

I am not surprised that the NSA can do this. Am I all for it? No. Another example of no privacy on the internet is when you file a counter DMCA claim on a YT video you are giving your personal information to the account involved. Also we don't know how this software that the NSA is using to collect this data works. One question I do have is do the NSA have access to our passwords when we login to a site such as this one?

The problem is not that they are doing what they are doing but the vast amount of data that is collected to be sifted through. There is so much data that nothing can be done effectively. Just telephone calls alone, it was stated that nothing has been prevented with all that big data. The underwear bomber was not prevented by it, the individuals involved in the marathon bombing were not prevented by it. All these individuals were in communication with foreign countries while in the US. The issue has never been about the collecting of data but the communications between the agencies. The government had all the information necessary to prevent 9/11. The CIA knew the individuals were headed to the US but there was no communication with the NSA or FBI. All this information gathering going on presently is a complete waste in regards to preventing anything. The agencies involved need to communicate better with each other. They need to scale back the amount of data being sifted through to be able to do the job necessary; less is better.
