Now that this gen is winding down, who won in your opinion?

I'm not going to go through Switch because anyone over 25 has played everything on Switch with different graphics. Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong...nothing ever changes but the name and graphics imo. But I will add it as a vote option for Nintendo fans.

Hardware
1080p
PS4 for basic 1080p gaming. Xbox One seemed under-powered out of the gate.

4K
Xbox One X for mid-cycle refresh. Seems to hit 4K more often than PS4 Pro and be a bit smoother, games like Final Fantasy 15 for instance, run with better frame rate pacing.

Both offer digital releases and game streaming, though Game Pass for Microsoft seems to be a bit more advanced than Playstation Now. Both offer monthly free games with subs. Both have decent annual sales. Playstation dipped it's toe in VR.

I won, XBX, Pro, PSVR........i have my cake and am eating it to.

 

The winner depends on the types of games you play. I prefer the xbox exclusives and the multiplayer experiences in those. The play anywhere feature is a nice bonus. So for me, xbox wins.
To be honest though, the only use my xbox gets these days is watching UHD movies. I've been almost strictly PC for the last year

imo sony won this gen and last gen was ms.

I have prefered sony from the get go and have never really liked ms consoles, only reason I had xbox was for halo... and the wait for halo, was not worth the butchering it got being turned from PC game in to Console game. decent story but the whole mechanics of game was worst thing to happen FPS game in long time, cause those same mechanics infested FPS game since then "lets all let people take damage and hide behind something and regen, like halo" which why avoided FPS games since then. industry seem to slowly stopping with that I think.

I think 1 maybe 2 more gens before sony and ms decided to make system together.

Sony has be better exclusives imo, to this date there not single ms elusive game that has made me say I want it enough to buy a ms system since the 360's that all rrod and i barely ever touch this system.

 

We all know it was between PS4 and Xbox One, and PS4 won all the way. The Switch is its own thing, that does not compete with them IMO.

Sony had better hardware and software from the get go, plus much better massaging, presentation and so on. Exclusives were amazing (for the most part) too. Microsoft did turn it around somewhat by the time the Xbox One X was released, but it was way too late. At least they have much better image and clear massaging for the next gen.

 

But that cake is non fattening, you can eat as much as you want.

I’d go with the PS4, some great exclusives this gen and they weren’t afraid to experiment with new franchises.

Xbox One on the other hand just didn’t excite me at all, seemed pointless owning one if you already had a decent PC.

ps4 brought it forward in terms of the big two home consoles though, nintendo has now cornered the handheld market with no competition

I don't think anything will change with the next generation of consoles either. Sony will still dominate because it's now established as the 'go to' console. If the specs are true for the PS5 it could push new boundaries with 4K 60FPS, which will promote Sony's TV's.

 

I think all 3 won. Xbox One for my multiplayer games, PS4 for my RPGs, and Switch for my Nintendo brand games. One system is not really better than the other imo.

 

You can say without a doubt the wii u failed though (I got one and have about the same amount of games as i do PS4 lol)

^^Only console i have not touched is the Switch because i already had all the first party Ninty games on the U, and i am most certainly not paying Ninty £320 to play MK8 again on the toilet. lol

 

I hated the interface on the Xbox one, so much I sold it because of that. I'll get a base version later for Vigor and Bless Unleashed. Unless Bless will come to ps4.

I agree, Xbox interface is a little....odd. I prefer PS4 basic UI.

 

IMHO Microsoft lost this gen's gamers when they released a TV console with DRM and an 'always on' internet cam spying on you. Nuff said really.

And XBO lacking exclusives compared to the PS4 was just more oil on the dumbster fire.

 

I don't own any of them, but when i do have a console, it is usually a playstation (never owned an xbox, last nintendo i had was a gamecube). I typically pick up a broken one super cheap and fix it.

Also, if you have a gamecube, get Skies of Arcadia and play it.....great game.
