OK, I've been gaming for a long time but I've never quite gotten my head around all the different kinds of AA there are, ie FXAA, MSAA, AA, etc.
I usually just crank the settings on whatever game I'm playing TO THE MAX and go with it, if it runs, so be it, if not, I'll turn it down.

Can someone fill me in on the nuances? Cheers

Doesn't seem to matter which one you use, if you crank the AA, things get blurry. I really don't understand why some gamers love AA so much. Perhaps people prefer blurry? I will use 2x AA at the most, just to take the rough edge off. Much more than that (8x+ etc) and its a blur fest.

That is your opinion and not what op asked. Create another thread and show the blurriness of what you are talking.

You're right, it is my opinion. If you have nothing constructive to add and just want to bash other peoples posts, I suggest you don't post at all. You say my post wasn't what the OP asked. Was yours? At least mine was on the topic of AA.

I didnt bash your post. You are trying to derail the thread into AA = Blur, which it is not true, in my opinion.

There is already a link answering the question for the op.

Again would you like to create a thread and prove your point about blurriness? If no, then fine.

I agree, i used to use downsampling on my GTX560TI as it was a much sharper image than AA, but its such a mess on the AMD's. I generally only use a low AA as too much aa just blurs the game.

So which would you guys using 7970 (Xfire) use, given the choice or availability? I'm after playability and IQ here at 1440 p.

Good to see other gamers who agree!

Personally I prefer the Adaptive Multisampling. There is less of a performance hit when compared to Supersampling, and it still seems to be of a good quality. Like I've said though, I use very little (generally 2x or 4x at the absolute max) because beyond that things get too "blurry" for my tastes.

All depend the game and performance.. if i can use SSAA, i use it...

Relax, man. To say he was attempting to derail the thread is reaching.

I never use AA, the blurriness pisses me off.

Blurriness? I don't get it, nothing is worse, more distracting and more unrealistic looking than crawling jaggies.

    To each his own.

Certain kinds of AA use a kind of 'blurriness' (FXAA in particular) to reduce Jaggies. Others methoids dont, but take more horsepower.
