Most likely a GTX280 or possibly wait for ATI/AMD's next gen card...

Nah, knowing me I'll buy a GTX280 the day they launch..lol.

The GTX 260 will use the 2x 6-pin. Only the GTX 280 will use the 8-pin and a 6-pin

I downgraded to 2x8800GS 384mb before the new cards. Now, however, with it seeming likely these new cards won't be value for money - on Nvidia's part - and could be beaten by cheaper Ati Crossfire solutions, I'm just fed up....I only switched to a Sli board from a Crossfire one about 2 months ago.

Actually, these 2x8800GS, despite only 384mb and 192-bit bus, can run COD4 at 1680x1050 max settings at 70-90 fps average on my monitor (1680x1050). I'm very impressed - so much so that I've decided **** it, I'm not upgrading this summer....maybe September. No need really, considering all I play ATM is Call of Duty 4. Crysis can wait for a few more months...

It will definately be either the GTX280 or ATI's 4870x2. Right now I'm leaning toward the 4870x2. Have to see them go head-to-head first and also see if nvidia comes out with a GTX280 2nd revision with 55nm/gddr5 in October or so. When Intel offers the 3rd quarter cpus I plan on getting an E8600 too. Be a nice upgrade.

As soon as Nehalem becomes mainstream ill be buying a new rig, which, if what I heard is true, should be coming this Fall or late in this summer, and Ill be getting a 280GTX or dual 4870 as the previous poster, depending on bang per buck and ATI issues on games. Im suitting my rig for some hardcore video edition and to play an upcoming MMORPG which features massive pvps (Aion), and since I make money out of what I do with my computer, I find that spending a lot on it has worked out thus far :p

I got my 8800 GTS 640Mb pretty much as soon as it came out 20 months ago and its the first graphics card that still serving me well today (specs on the left). I've found no game yet (except crysis) thats pushed the card to its limits, everything else runs fantastically well, and so does crysis on high detail.

I generally wait until I have about 3-4 games I run regularly to start to struggle. This gives me an indication that I need to upgrade, and so far I'm well from that figure so I'll probably wait unril the GTX 280 is well embedded into the consumer market place.

LoL, upgrade your wife to someone who understands the need to buy 2 280s? Or are you upgrading her jugs or something?

I think I need to upgrade mine to a newer model also :) she hit 30 this year...

I'm gonna stick with my 8800gtx until it starts having more serious difficulties playing the games I want at 1900x1200. Once that happens I'll look towards the latest and greatest.. until then, I see no need to spend my hard earned money on middle of the road cards like GX2s or even going SLI. Unless you are one of those people who "NEEDS AAx16" for whatever reason, I don't see it worth it to waste the cash..

^ well currently I'm playing only 3 games, which is another reason why not to upgrade.. there aren't many new games that would even merrit buying a brand new $500+ graphics card.. Unless all you wanna do is play Crysis at the highest settings ever.. please say that's not what you want to do.. lol

As for the GTX, I can play CoD4 maxed out, no aa (who needs it when you're running balls to the wall) and get a steady 80-90fps @ 1900x1200
Also playing mass effect, all settings cranked and getting around 35-60. Usually sits around 50s, again @ 1900X1200. If I oc I can get a couple fps more, so yeah.. I'm quite comfortable. Dunno why some people get so hot and bothered when a new card comes out.. seems peops just upgrade for a) bragging rights, b) because they cannot LIVE without AA c) for benchmarking. At least the latter I can understand lol

I will be buying a 4870 or a 4870X2 as my next graphics upgrade. my 8800GTS 320 has served me well. apart from with crysis every other game has ran fine at 1680x1050. but starting to see vram limitations so a 4870 with 1GB of DDR5 would be nice.

I think, this time the 4870 and the GTX 280 will be pretty equal.

I wasn't impressed those benchmark results with the GTX 280 in Crysis, it didn't seem like it was as whoopass as people thought. At least, it still didn't tame Crysis.

If the 4870 will be much less pricey than the GTX 280, I will be getting the 4870. I want a new card that beats my 8800GT by quite a bit, and be able to Crossfire or SLI it at some point in the future, without it being too expensive. :)

But I think I'll stick to my 8800GT for atleast half a year, it still serves me well, there isn't a game out there I cannot run on "High". Since that's the case, there's no real reason to upgrade just yet, is there? ;)
