dose any one know when the next round of G80's is coming out, i am looking to upgrade with my tax return, and i am not shelling out $ 400 US for a video card, and i would rather not buy a card thats tech is 2 years old now, but i guess any things is getter than my 5900 XT,
I am assuming he is talking about the 6 series and 8 series from ati. Not really sure though. I have no idea when the next round of geforce 80's coming out. Probably when ati releases the r600.
it's not a off-handed comment, i don't see the reason to buy a G60 or G70 if mid level cards based on the G 80 core will be out soon, and it dosent look like ATI will be sending out their new stuff any time soon, and i am doing a whole new system, and i think intel will be the winner for the cpu and MB,
I see what you're saying now. I thought you were calling the current G80 "old-tech" or something. Sorry!
You mean G70 (GF7x) or NV40 (GF6x). There were no G60s. AMD/ATI seems to be delaying everything, gpus and cpus included. The fact that they're going quite a long time (even longer for CPUs) without having a competitive top-end flagship is beyond me. Methinks the merger really hurt them in the short-term.
I think once Windows Vista comes pre installed on manufactured computers (like Dell, Mesh, Alienware etc.) nVidia will release the low-end and mid-range Direct X 10 GPUs.By March both ATi and nVidia will have a full product range.
well, the last we heard about midrange 8 series cards was that they would come in Q2 '03 iirc, so they shouldnt be long. but as allways, those are only rumours.
CPU and GPU lead times are entirely different senarios. You cant turn around a CPU in a short amount of time like a new GPU. A new CPU architecture takes years to design and get into market... Look how long intel took to move from netburst to core 2.
don't wait to buy if thats what your thinking.. there won't be a better nvidia card out for at least 6months and perhaps longer.
GO eVGA for the upgrade path. That is within three months of your purchase if another card comes out you can spend like 50-100 bucks and they'll take your card and give you the next best.
