I have freshly installed a Radeon 6700xt (MSI Mech 2x) did a clean driver installation, run some stress test from the driver and also tried furmark alone and alongside cpuburner on 16 threads. Synthetic testing shows no unstability whatsoever, everything supposedly nominal gpu reported power consumption is 185w, but my psu is showing abnormally high power consumption easily 100w more than my previous 5700xt. Trouble is i cant get more than 1-2 min of gaming without crashing, i killed any trace of overclocking on cpu/memory. So to sum up, while i had peak 380-400w power consumption including 27'' VA monitor, now im having almost 150w more out of the blue compared with 5700xt, could this be related to faulty vrm?, as far as i know vga reports power usage from behind vrm. Since this vga is one of the cheapest quality around, which im fine with since i live in argentina, i learned to deal with my mech 5700xt with careful undervolting to enjoy low temps and noise, but something is way out of place here, i didnt even tried any change to power profile of the vga, it cant be 150w away at peak that would make something like 250+w
Had same issue with 6900XT on 22.5.2 drivers. 3DMark Port Royale stress test passed, several other benchmarks too. Quake 2 RTX dying under 1 minute. Every single time. Some games was unstable too. Sea of thieves, CS:GO, League of Legends. I thought it's because CPU bottleneck and GPU is unstable in mid-overload, but no. 22.5.1 drivers SOLVES everything! So my question is. Did you try older driver?
Nope sir, strange behavior but i saw a similar pattern under 1 minute death on real games, stress test passed. Before returning it it is worth a try. Thx for the feedback.
Well worked 4 hours straight on the problem: -Sadly after checking, 22.5.1 drivers were tested already first hand. Went with the latest, cleaned again my custom cpu curve optimization profiles. Latest drivers helped, previously i couldnt even get the complete sensor readout from gpuz. Strange that this time out of not caring i went for a simple driver reinstall, unlike previous factory reset option. -Managed to run anything stable except my joy and pride red dead redemption, on the 5700xt it is solid as a rock, forgot for more than 1 year about any kind of crash, on my previous i7 9700 and after my update to 5800x, which gave me a nice bump thanks to rebar(SAM) -Tried vulkan, dx12, every cache wipes, tricks you learn with your favorite title, consistent crash with consistent timing. -I was going to wait till tomorrow to switch back, but saw tiny corrupted pixels on the browser, so i promptly switched back to my 5700xt. Im not going to open a card im waiting for return, but i looked against a backlight from the side, im paranoid about memories missing thermal pads, rdr2 gave me weird moments of crash with tiny windows with glitchy artifact colors. My uninformed take is that synthetic test and most of my titles didnt stress memories enough to reveal the defect, rdr was always heat happy on vram particularly. Didnt got awkward high power consumption readings anymore since those first minutes.
