    New to the game, just got it on Steam today. Not sure what really prompted me to have a sudden interest nor sure why i never had a previous interest.

    anyway, i want to spice it up right from the start. I just want mainly some texture type mods like Qarl's texture pack was for Oblivion, shadow/lighting type mods. Anything else that might make for a good first time experience?
    I rummaged through Nexus but there's just too many without knowing which would make for the best experience.

    NMC's texture pack is a must!
    TV's ENB for Fallout 3 was pretty darn gorgeous from what I remember. A few of my screens from it:

    I used it in conjunction with SweetFX.

    Hell, here is my old mod list that I screenshotted.

    Couldnt play without the enhanced night sky, Fallout Street Lights, Light of Night (makes nights darker - i used moonlight), megaton lighting overhaul, Xepha's darkened interiors, Project Reality

    If you want the grass to look like it does in the above screenshots, edit fallout.ini with the following:

    Code:
    [Grass]
    iMinGrassSize=10
    GrassPointLighting=1
    bDrawShaderGrass=1
    iGrassDensityEvalSize=2
    iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure=4
    If you want to massively increase Draw Distance, in the same file (fallout.ini)
    Code:
    uGridsToLoad=7
    uExterior Cell Buffer=64

    That's all I got. So many mods and config changes.... it's hard to remember everything

    I can post a list of mods but you are better off with ENB since its available for FO3.

    I tried to use ENB in FO3 today but settings are spread everywhere so its kinda hard... I need patience...

    edit: Well since ENB works kinda good from the go in FO3, I might give it a shot and learn it for good... Here's a shot I took after a few tweaks.

    I'm gonna post a mod list soon that imho are essentials and I might continue my work on ENB tweaks (start point from Midhrastic's, all credits to him) + SweetFX if needed.

    Midhras' enb is pretty spectacular for nights\indoors. He also has some pretty spiffy DoF going on. His daytimes are a bit funky though. Let me know if you ever work that out :) I prefered TV's ENB for overall daytime\nighttime balance.

    I recommend installing something like MMM to increase the difficulty.

    I also did a wrye bash (flash) guide for managing fallout 3 mods

    I still have my wrye flash installation in place and can install all my mods instantly if I was to reinstall fallout 3 or nv.

    A question.

    How does Fallout 3 stand up against Fallout New Vegas Graphics and gameplay wise?

    Loved Fallout NV and will buy the fallout 3 collection depending on your comments.

    Fallout 3 has better atmosphere, both have same gameplay for the most part.

    I liked FO3 the best.

    Yes FO3 has a lot more atmosphere and mods make it even more eerie and creepy. I also prefer FO3 over FNV when it comes to replay.

    What does that mean? What is F3 missing? :)

    Excluding mods, does F3 and FNV have the same quality graphics wise?
    If the answer is "no" Do the F3 mods make the grphics way better then FNV?

    Edit: Also I saw this on the Fallout 3 Steam page "Notice: Fallout 3 is not optimized for Windows 7" Does this mean it will not work or keep crashing with Win 8 or Win 7?

    I found New Vegas to be a lot uglier than Fallout 3. Both were fun games and had the same gameplay. The story intrigued me in both of them. But F3 does look better. I couldnt even make it look good with ENB... no matter how hard I tried.

    Keep this thread alive with some screenshots and mods.

    This game and the STALKER series is why I have such a huge back log :p

    I would play this again, but installing all of the mods was so damn time consuming in NV......plus the game crahed to desktop too much for me.

    I would love to play FO3 in a very deep and creepy enviorment, with just a few quick mods......was hoping this game would get something like STALKER complete mod....which I adore.

    F1refly...you will like the game, me thinks. :)

    That doesn't mean it crashes... I don't know why it says that at all. The game runs great on Windows 7.
