Often software decoding is actually better. If you saw bad quality with a GeForce on DVD, switch software. The GF series still have enhancements (but not a full hardware decoder) and can provide excellent DVD quality with the right software. Now I will say that the Radeon's decoder does have pretty nice image quality, but again, it doesn't look any better than good software on my GF2 (or my old TNT2 and Savage4 for that matter). The worst DVD quality I've seen was the hardware decoder on my old Rage LT Pro. Now I realize that that was a sucky OEM card, and I'm not going to condemn ATi as a whole for that card, but many of the hardware decoders suck. Only a select few seem any good. Hardware decoders are only sometimes the way to go.

Well ATi Hardware Dvd decoders rocks. It beats any software decoder. Also very Low CPU usuage 45% with Geforce 2 Ultra, 15% with Radeon 32mb. so i can do more stuff with my radeon.

So what about utilization. What were you planning on doing that needs more than 50% of the processor while you're watching a DVD? That's just not a relevant issue. And I just don't agree with you about the ATi decoder being better than any software decoder. I've seen some software decoders that look just as good.

Well my ATi DVD is better i believe. I run DVD's @ 30fps never over or under and play UT in a 640x480-32bit window mode at the same time.

When I asked a shop clerk wich video card he recommened for DVD playback..which I use alot of...he recommened a Radeon....I of course can't give an opinion on the GeForce's DVD playback because the last video card I used before the Radeon was a 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500
