Hey Folks ,

I play Everquest online and I am getting ready to build a new system with an Asus a7v133 mobo , 1.2 gig AMD , 256 megs of PC133 , 40 gig 7200 rpm HD and I was wondering whether I should get the Radeon 64 meg DDR for the image quality or the Geforce3 for the speed ? I would like the image quality but I am worried that the slower Radeon would make it more difficult to play the game . Any input would be appreciated and thanks in advance ,
2. I love my Radeon. I can't wait until the Radeon II comes out. I hope that they have a trade-up program. I have never had a GF3, so don't know. Anyways, it seems pointless because current games don't utilize many function of GF3, so you will be wasting money for unused features. And when features do become available, there will be many new video cards out from NVIDIA so your probably upgrade instead of buy OLD GF3.

If your comparing the Geforce 3 and the upcoming Radeon 2 card well my answer is "I don't know" Ive never tried them but if your talking about the Geforce 2 GTS and the Radeon 64 MB DDR I would suggest you to buy a Radeon. Eventhough I have a Geforce 2 GTS I would suggest for you to get a Radeon. See the advantages of a Radeon is better Image Quality and the benefits of a Geforce 2 GTS is better raw performance.

I suggest Radeon because your system sounds like a high end system and I doubt you need all that power from your PC and a Geforce 2 GTS.
I would get the best of both worlds by buying a Radeon. First your system is fast and so is the Radeon though not as fast as a Geforce GTS but you get better image quality with the Radeon. So with the help of your Athlon, your processor will make it a speed demon on its own. See I have a "classic" 750 Mhz Athlon so for me raw performance is more important than image quality. Still Radeon is a great 3d performer but not as fast as Geforce GTS. The Radeon also has untapped technical features which will probably be implemented in future games which will probably make it close or maybe as fast as the GTS if and when it is implemented in software. As "The 1 Tweaker" said, Geforce 3 and Radeon both dont have their technical features utilized in most games and when they are finally utilized in software there will be new cards which are faster and better.

I'd just get the Radeon.

So unless you want to get the newest generation of Radeon or Geforce cards then wait until someone actually has a Radeon 2 & Geforce 3 to tell you their opinions.

But I doubt anyone has a Radeon 2 yet.

I have a gf3, I have a ton of driver support. This thing works excellently. Compared to my old ATI card, lack of driver support. And some ati cards with no driver support, I would never buy ATI again.
Then again I suppose I'm biased, since I have the fastest card on the market. BTW it looks really nice too.

Suddace Go for the 64mb VIVO Radeon. I would look at Best Buy cuz there selling 200mhz/200mhz clocked radeon's. VIVO is great you can hook your Camcorder and record home movies to your PC. Well also you get the best DVD Playback. So you can go from Game's -> Home Movies -> DVD. Now thats more out of a Video card.

Geforce 3 cards are pretty basic "Games" and nonthing else.

You'll get more out of the Radeon then a Geforce 3. Well Also look at Windows 2000 its my favor gaming OS more stable then Win95,98,ME.

Well, if you directly ask, I would recommend you to wait until the R200 (Radeon2) comes out! At the moment, there is no card which is able to be compared with the Geforce3, because the Radeon is 1 year old now and the Geforce3 only 3 or 4 months! Wait until September, when ATI is hitting the market with their new Radeon2 (read some articles about mass production yesterday)!

Cheers!
BTW This is just a german site, but please feel free to compare the Geforce3 performance to the Radeon2 performance @ http://www.3dcenter.de/artikel/2001/07-20.php3 ! Just look at the Table/Board, where they are listing the Benchmark scores (light blue is Radeon2 and Radeon2 VE)

of course you talking about hardware this guy can't buy, he asked about the radeon ot gf3.
Games of course work best on cards you can buy, install and use. So as he pointed out, his choices are the radeon and GF3.

Well I bought a Redeon 64mb DDR card and never regretted it..maybe because I'm CDN and love to support the home team..I was originally looking for a GF3 but I use DVD alot so I went with the best hardware DVD playbackin the industry..The Radeon..I whole heartedly recommend it over a GF3

I own both the radeon 64mbddr and a visiontek gf3 and, not to take anything away from the radeon, but the gf3 blows it away. but keep in mind that you are comparing a $400 card to a $200 dollar card. the radeon has great image quality but the gf3 is just as good w/ better performance. as far as choosing between a radeon or geforce, if u got the dough, gf3 all the way, but the radeon is a close second if not.
