I start a new job tonight  And while my PC is still pretty damn good, I am going to take the opportunity to "upgrade" my system, cus.. I'm a guru thats why! ::banana: My current system: Core i5 3570K with Thermalright Silverarrow Special Limited Edition Cooler 8Gb Patriot 2133Mhz Black Mamba (2x4Gb) Asrock Z77 Extreme4 7870 XT Tahiti LE 120GB Kingston Hyperx SSD 1TB SATA3 WD Blue 500GB SATA2 Hitatchi Corsair 750M PSU What I plan on upgrading to: Another 8Gb kit of the Patriot Black Mamba Another 1TB or 2x 2TB WD Blue drives and remove the 500gb and 1tb and use the 1 tb as network storage. Either grab another 120gb SSD for RAID0 or just get a 240GB SSD R9 280X 3GB GPU Intel Core i5 4960K with a Corsair H100i or NZXTKraken X61 As for the mobo, there is a lot out there. Any decent Z97 Chipset will do but has to be black/red/blue in colour. So black and blue or blue and red or black and red. Ill keep my PSU as its fine and not that old anyway. Thoughts on that as an upgrade? The system will be used for a multitude of things, Gaming, Video watching, office work, video editing, streaming etc.
I love how you put "Quote"tation becouse that's what this is an "upgrade". I don't where you been but if you ask around people will tell you this is not a time for upgrade, especially the ones like you who already have a decent PC. Patience is a virtue.
Prices however are fairly low at the moment and getting a Z97 board now opens up Broadwell for later. That's why I upgraded from my q9650 last month. To be honest, I don't think DDR4 will be a massive jump and I think it will take a while yet before it becomes a viable option.
You'd be better off keeping your current system and getting a 780/290 and a nice big SSD. More RAM if you're running out of it would be a good option, and maybe invest in some decent audio kit. Your system is still very strong to be honest, at least wait until Skylake.
keep the cpu. its great for all current and future games of 1 years time at minimum. instead use the money to get another bigger SSD, more ram (16GB total is fine. might as well disable swap at that point!), a nice gpu. i prefer nvidia over amd, simply due to its drivers, but amd gets you more bang for the buck. also, you might wanna wait for nvidias announcement. maybe its worth waiting for the new 800 series!
You won't need that much of an upgrade soon, except maybe your gpu. And there you should hold out a bit until either nvidia releases their new ones, or maybe amd moves a bit, since there's rumors they might change a bit too. If you really think you want to upgrade (since you don't need to ) I'd say go with the 240gb ssd and a new gpu. SSD raid sure is one hell of a thing, but I wouldn't need that loading speed for just gaming myself, except you might be doing other stuff on your rig too. And a new gpu is almost always an option :nerd:
