I just upgraded my cpu to 3.0 ghz and also got a 6800 gt.
But to my horror when I run Far cry demo it wigs out BIG TIME.
I'm getting huge chunks of black unrenderd space, and after a while, my sound freaks out, I lose all sound and artifacts and
colour changes begin to happen. Also some of the special tests on aqaumark3 are freaking out aswell.I have all the newset drivers and updates for everything I have. Painkiller seems fine.
Quake3...well thats years old but I thought a system like this
would allow me to play far cry and stuff with nice levels of detail?
Whats going wrong? Is this a faulty peice of hardware?
I don't have long left before I can return it.

No my mobo is new too. I did have only 4x agp with 400 fsb, but this one
has the 8x, and 800 fsb.

Well, the Far Cry demos had serious technical problems on their own, try another game you know or knew to be stable with your previous setup, or try 3dMark03.

Take his advice. The demo is pure junk compared to the game. By the way you need some good dual channel pc3200 RAM for that processor also.

LOL ... I just happen to have an unopened copy of Far Cry just laying around

Well WinXP don't really like it when you get a new mobo. Did you format as well? Also, did you install your motherboard's drivers?

The demo of Far Cry is a even more primative version of 1.0 of the real game. The real game doesnt even support 6800s unless you patch it to 1.1

Since demos cant be patched, you are playing a game that does not support your hardware.

it's too new, get the game it is great!

    this is what i did
    i had exact same problem
i switched to a diffrent power conecter and problem was solved..
the power conecter i had on was bad i guess:)
also for stutters in games try disableing fast writes in bios and through riva tuner worked for me
ya have to do it in both...
