i like my vram not overheating more than some silly cosmetic heat-trapping backplate.

Backplates actually cool the ram if they make contact and make em out of aluminum that was the case with my gtx 280 way back in the day.

Here, take my thousands and don't give me a backplate, oh, and while you're at it, I'd like 3.5gb of Vram, not the 4gb I paid for.

So you like that 4GB of VRAM you can use wen you payed for 8GB?

looks like it was a common misconception, nvidia probably did tests, saw that backplate makes ram hotter and got rid of it. makes sense, especially for people who run big cpu coolers with big fans, this way exposed ram on the back will receive much better cooling than it ever could being trapped under a cover.

I don't know about cooling, but backplates help with the rigidness of the card and the part of the weight of the cooler is not put on the PCB, but on the backplate.

-The back plate also adds to the weight on the slot ;oP
-2 cards make it worse in sli.
-many people getting this for programming would not care about backplates
-Glottiz is right, big cpu cooler, is the reason I don't like plates.

Same, I've been holding out for that one and hopefully Nvidia will screw over Titan buyers again with a similar performing card at half the price :D

*note I'm not bashing Titan owners just hoping they did what they did with the 780's. **** if i had a job that payed twice what it currently does I'd have one with a full cover block*

By the time you can grab a Pascal chip (if that's what you meant), it will be bundled with ubicrap again :D
