Ok, not posted here for a long time but been a member since 2004. I just flashed my MSI Tomahawk Z690 DDR4 from BIOS 1.0 to 1.115 beta. Yes, I know it’s a beta but should not cause this problem in my opinion. 1.0 bios ram 4000MHz 18,20,20 @ 1.35 volts passed metest86. 1.115 bios will not boot with anything other than the stock XMP profile 3600 MHz 16,18,18 @ 1.35v. Flashed back and all as before. Do you think they are trying to get people to buy DDR5 stuff?
That's normal behavior for many z690 platforms. I have an ASUS z690 board and latest beta bios are not able to run >3800 mhz. Go back to your old bios and stay there for a while. As for the last comment, the answer is no. The problem lies within the newest Intel MRC inserted into these beta bios.
The number of times I had this happen, most recently was a year ago on my P67 system. 3000c15 ram (D die) used to clock to 3833c17 but now can barely overclock at all. The ram is in the memory QVL for the mobo. Its par for the course when you get an updated bios. Tweaks for some things can negatively affect others that are pushing the edge of stability. Such is life.
Ok, Thank both of you for the information. It is not a problem really as I have not noticed any difference in system performance except for memory bench marks. For any thing I use my PC for either BIOS is fine and not had any other issues. I think like you said I will stick with V1.0 for the time being. Regards Andy
A quick update for information: Just installed the official v1.1 BIOS and not the BETA and has resulted in not being able to use XMP at all. (No OC) Just give overclock error on boot. Flashed back to v1.0 and all is good. (No OC) microcode v1.0 =11 and V1.1 = 15
