So cool! My last AMD processor was from my puberty! Opteron 165 overclocked. Been watching AMD do it’s comeback last years and I’m excited to admit that my next one could very well be AMD. Well played!

putting the screws to Intel, I love it. No chance my next build has Intel inside.

Considering this is Linux results, that performance increase is more substantial than you might think. The Windows scheduler is terrible with the 2990WX. If they're going with the chiplet design utilizing that central I/O chip, this ought to negate all of the Windows scheduler issues from previous TR models. I'm sure this will have a larger L3 cache too (since TRs are basically just cut-down Epycs, which already have a monstrous L3).

So - Windows users ought to be real happy with this.

Hopefully this CPU won't have any of the odd issues with the WX CPUs (where performance was all over the place). I think the Windows scheduler was optimized for Ryzen in 1903 and hopefully it works for TR 3000 as well. Assuming there are no hiccups, I will likely replace my 1950X with this chip.

This could be the chip I'm waiting for..... Now just need to see the other side of things regarding it and it's motherboards!!

Sixty plus PCI-E 4.0 lanes PUHLEASE!.!.! Native to the CPU of course. Non of this cross/back talk of internal PLX/chips in general over a fixed X4 setup......

Question is if there will be Zen2+ as last AM4 refresh since 2020 is planned end of refreshes for AM4 and time AM5 is to come.
AMD can make Zen3 and use I/O die for AM4 and for AM5 new I/O die too.

Or Zen3 may end up exclusively for AM5 and while memory bandwidth there should result in better performance, price tag may not be nice to look at.

I doubt there will be another refresh of Zen2 for AM4. I'm sure Zen3 will be for AM5. I suspect the Zen2-based APUs will be the last we see for AM4.

Dunno maybe they're about to release a new Threadripper CPU?

There you go. Good boy AMD. Gotta give it to them..what a comeback..cores, ipc, frequency at decent price. Intel can suck it for keeping us in the freaking 4 core 8 thread era for such a long time.

it shouldn't , windows has problems with NUMA (overall, not just on epyc/threadripper cpus), the new zen2 chips aren't numa, and windows already knows how to handle cache locality (divided l3 caches between chiplets)

It is incredible that they can still manage to pack 4 of 8 cores CPU clocked at 3.6ghz on early samples. They could easily clock that a bit higher if they didn't want to keep the TDP low for TR standards. And the best part is that TR are always packed with TOP of the line CPU quality yeils.

Zen 4 will be AM5, to go along with DDR5 socket changes.

AMD said themselves Zen 3 won't do ddr5

We once had Phenom II. Released with DDR2 and DDR3 support for certain models. Ryzen could very well bridge once again.
I am thinking we will have another compatible AM4 release. It may be bridged, but we will have another.

I'm not sure that's going to happen. To my recollection, all Phenom II chips were designed from the very beginning to support DDR2 and DDR3. I think it's more likely AMD will release a DDR4 and a separate DDR5 version of mostly the same CPU, especially since socket AM4 is nearing EOL.
