New 5870 owner

I just got my 5870 installed. I am impressed. On 3dMark06 it performs as well as my 4870 X2 quadifire setup. On 3dMark Vantage it scores 300 less. Gaming performance is wonderful. My crossfire days/headaches are over for now. Are people getting decent oc's with this card(not that you would need it for gaming).

 

Usually people are passing 900/1350 with ease it seems.

 

900mhz on the GPU is very easy for sure, but 1350 on the memory isn't. Many cards can't go past 1250. On average it's 1300mhz. Anything higher is rare, and for the ones I saw almost unstable too.

@stock volts my 5870 can go to 930mhz, average is 920mhz. With Afterburner you can do ~1Ghz with a bit more juice on the GPU.

though since memory makes no difference hardly when overclocking HD58 and 57 series i guess it doesnt matter really.

 

Yes it's not a big deal. A big overclock on the GPU is enough on the 5800's. I'm pretty happy with my 1040/1300.

 

1350 on the RAM???? I've "never" seen anyone get that high. This is for two reasons:

1. It is pointless
2. It is darn near impossible to get anything higher than 1300 with a high GPU clock ie. over 900mhz

When I'm over 900mhz for the core, I can't get anything higher than 1295mhz for the RAM stable.

So far, all I've tried for on air is 1000/1295, and I can get that stable with 1.25v via MSI Afterburner. I only run at those clocks for benchmarking. Everyday gaming I use 925/1215 via CCC @ stock voltages of 1.162v :banana:

3DM06 is heavily CPU bound. It's normal with "only" a C2Q @ 4.1Ghz.
With 200mhz more on my CPU (4.7Ghz, with the same OC on the GPU), my score jumps to 1500 points higher (to 28.5k from 27k).

 

yeah got my HD 5870... Very impresed just because the last 3 ati cards let me down.. HD 5770's and HD 4770.

neway I'm opposite man, my 4890 and 4870x2 really impressed me, my 275 was a little dissapointing wen compared to the 4890, didn't overclock as well and lagged behind in a few games, still liked it though, played a few PhysX games

 

Hi, only done vantage and dirt2 since i've been busy.
Dirt2 didnt take a screenshot, but everything was on max (ultra & highest where ultra wasnt available) 1900x 1080 and got 55fps average.

 

nice :thumbup: I will compare vs i7 (if I ever get it running) + 4870x2

 

Dont see how its pointless? when im running 1000/1350 stable
