Hi, i heard from a buddy of mine that wondows XP binds to your hard drive. now i can't understand HOW it can do that. unless it writes to the boot record? but even then you can wipe that. but it still scares to try. so is this true? does it really STICK it self to your hard drive and stop you from installing anymore more OS's??? i just wanna take it for a little test drive and see how it is. (So dont worry it would be permenent)

As far as I know that is false. Even if it did write something to the boot record all you have to do is fdisk /mbr and its gone. Besides a friend of mine installed Windows XP RC2 and didn't like it so went back to Windows 98se with no problems.

I think its because it was only a Release Canidate and he wanted the FULL released version. I'm not sure what his reasons were. I haven't played with it personally yet so I really can't say yes or no to the question of is it worth trying.

ok cool... an other things. just thinking about it. wouldn;t it be illegal to do something like that. lets just say i want to install Linux later on. that would mean that i HAVE to buy a new Harddrive... would that violate some kind of law? well one way or an other i guess i'll just wait

I have run WinXP on my system but didn't like it as it was on RC1 i WHAT the full version becides the RC1 takes ages to close down & boot up in the mean time i have used 98SE + ME, i change OS like cloths the XP writes to boot sector is fulse, however if you go from a FAT partition to a NTL (or something) then you will have to delete the partions in order to install older OS on your computer

XP's not bad. Pretty stable. I'm runnin' final, I've installed it, formatted afterwards, ran WinMe, then reinstalled it, and I never once had a hitch. So I think your friend got some screwed up info.
