So basically what I'm looking for is a case that isn't a monster...
and which will give good airflow and hopefully I won't hear the fans being too loud...

What is wrong with MSI mobos?
As for the case, there is no silent one with good airflow. Compromise... CM R

how are you planing on cooling the cpu? cause that will make a difference on the case size you need as well.

The best in cooling performance is Cooler Master Haf X. The best in silence without sacrificing too much cooling performance is Fractal Design R3, with a fan installed in each of all of the fan holes (although some prefer NZXT).

If money is no object and you want superior cooling performance without too much noise then Lian Li PC-P80N or PC-V2120 would be my pick. Three 140 mm front intakes and toollessness FTW.

Quietest case I've worked with that still had good cooling was the Corsair 600D

What CPU fan? no point having a quiet case if you're using a loud CPU cooler. Some of them are just ridiculous when you consider that some of the best ones are also very quiet (Thermalright Silver Arrow, Noctua D-14 etc)

i can recommend the coolermaster 690 advanced II. very good airflow, silent operation and just about any heatsink can fit.

another thing, pick a new psu. stick with corsair/seasonic. personally id go with seasonic as they make many of corsairs psus (corsair is a company that contracts others to make their psus and slap their label on it)

also stick with asus/gigabyte for your motherboard. personally id go with asus because they have an uefi bios implemented and gigabyte doesnt.
