need help with buying a new custom gaming computer!

Does anyone else find it funny that a certain someone thinks they are much smarter than everyone else?

Anyways, lets take that 550watt and put it to rest. Lets say we have the Corsair TX550; it is a CWT PSU based off the older TX750 model. Id say this is one of CWT higher end quality units and is a single rail. Lets factor in what you said, 30% OC on CPU and a 10% OC on gpu. Lets use my system for reference. 30% oc on cpu would be about 4.5ghz. So, you can add about 100 watts give or take = 190 watts.(depending on your chip quality, this would be avg chip requiring a lot of volts). 10% for my gpu would be about 800mhz, add 50watts to that which would make gpu use a total of 300watts. So already we are almost at 500watts. 2 sticks of ram = 10watts. 1 pcie sound card = 25 watts. 7 fans 3watts each = 21 watts. fan controller = 10 watts. 2 HDDs = 20watts, 3 ssds = 10 watts. Lets add all this together now. All this together is ~586 watts.

This system would be drawing 36 more watts than that 550 is supposed to continously put out; this in turn would cause it to do one of the following:
1. cause it to intermittently reset/shutdown
2. overheat, which would also lead to above
3. work fine but be strained too much to cause its life span to drastically be reduced.
4. poor performance in various applications.
5. possibly damage other components.


So it seems to me you dont know as much as about psus as you think you do. Unless you like to recommend people to ride their psus a$$ until it gives out.

Edit: and just for ****s and giggles, extreme psu calc says you need 587 watts.

In the end he was not smart enough psu wise to continue this charade. If he had not posted the 550 Watt is good enough for any video card he might of lasted a bit longer. Moron ftw
