Ok, I have a big problem. Im smart, but I forget everything, or almost. lol
I can remember soo much useless stuff about computer and car, etc. But I seem for me to be near to impossible to remember road names, birthday dates (like the birthday of my girlfriend, I went into soo much trouble because of that)... :(

So do any of you do things each days to help remember better?

  2. have no fear, the doctor is here lol :p

You suffer so called selective amnesia, may be hot weather, may be stress, however a good exercise is this..

at end of the day when in bed, try to remember step by step what you did that day, but reverse, like, you are in bed, before bed you drink milk, before milk you say goodnight, before goodnight you did that and before that you did this, etc.

this will improve your memory, also you must eat more fish it include fosfore and it's great for memory, also you might ask in pharmacy for a drink that includes GINKOBILOBA, anyone can drink and it help reduce stress and memory, study etc. ;)

    I try word/number associations.
Ecspecially for B-Days, ph. #'s, PIN #'s, etc.
Try to give a certain "normal" item, you can relate to the person, object, etc. that corresponds with the person's, object's "number" to remember.
    ie: Say, your g-friend's b-day is April 11,1975... (04/11/75)
You can think of: "my g-friend is smart, she always has info for me." Information, for the U.S. is "411"... or choose the right combo that you can use for the situation.
Road names: when a street is first encountered, (say, Broadway St.), teh next street I come to, (for remembering directions...) (say, High St.), I would create a sentence that has Broadway as a topic (noun), then use "High" as a verb or adjective, to create a sentence.... I saw a Broadway review where the actors got "high" scores....etc. etc. Continue on with the "running" sentence, until you arrive at your destination and then, repeat the sentence over again to place the sentence as an actual event.
Works (usually) for me. esp. with PIN numbers for my credit/debit cards, I associate the number with the address of the main branch of bank or mailing address of the credit co.
Good Luck, better at least try it for your G-Friend's B-day... and your Mom's.

  4. Let me give 1 more info, the brain can retain only an information in short term memory of 12 seconds..

    trying to remember for example 1 9 5 5 1 7 6 6 1 0 8 8 is pretty hard, but if you take them as 4 digit like years, 1955 - 1766 - 1088 , you will learn them immediatly than learning each number alone, because memorizing 12 numbers each by itself takes 12 seconds, however when you take them 4 at a time, you require only 3 seconds, that is 1955 = 1 sec , 1766 = 1 sec , 1088 = 1 sec. ;)

you can do that trick when study history or math
now that you know the trick.

anything after 12 seconds the brain will send to long term memory, that is the things you will remember longer.

as such if your girlfriend tell you....we meet at 20:00 pm on july 15 , simply remember this = 20715 as a number, 20 = hour , 7 = month , 15 = day, do it like that = TWENTY SEVEN FIFTEEN, it just took you 3 sec to remember, instead of multiple repetition. :p

If u want, do Karate, bc theres a lot of memorisation to do with the combo's and as u get better, it'll actually help your memory

  6. Why play karate and break his neck?

better get MORTAL KOMBAT and learn all the combos of each character lmao :D

Thoses are nice trick to use.
Im thinking about how to order thoses info tomorrow.

But I think my system lack of something, I mean, sometimes, very very rarely, I feel like I had a surge. A mega boost of energy, on a more than natural number of ? vitamin or else. My body stay the same, except I feel the need to play sport and I can remember stuff ... soo much old stuff. Old memories, Dates, road, long lengh number...

I felt like that for 5 whole days, It was so weird but I never ever felt so good. But I did not do any drugs or beer or anything. I was at full speed since I woke up, and I never sleep before I felt like I could sleep, 12h-1h+.

The only thing that could have caused that is whit my past job; I was working in a Garage for the Rush of summer tires. 8hours or semi-hardcore job for 1 month. Then it append the next week of the end of the Rush.

If only I could stay like I was.
I mean, my mind was running like a Genius. That was insane. I was doing complex mathematical equation like it was 2+2 in a second, or two. I know im smart, but my memory is week. I feel like im a badly done RPG mage. All on Intelligence and nothing on wisdom.

  9. Then this isnt SELECTIVE AMNESIA, this is true ANXIETY, it's terrible i know.

If you want to regain your power and such, you must try to relax as much as possible, just lay in bed and do nothing (don't worry), daydream a bit,
once the stress is gone..BOOM, recharged and ready to go.

I know what you feel cause i'm constantly on a rush, 24h shift on 3 times a week is a bit too much, i got used to it, and that will happend to you..i even bet that you got some blunt feeling and a bit of a headache. right?

Wow.. some of these tips seem pretty useful. I constantly forget random stupid things myself, always joked about having a selective memory I can't control :p

Thanks for the ideas Crashing Edje, I think I'll try a few myself and see how it goes.

  15. No problem guys, just trying to help and as someone says - Knowledge Is Power. :)

I tried what crashing said, and to my astoundment i remembered my whole day yesterday when i woke up! I usually cant do that....

    Thanks :D

  17. Congratulations RSJRV99. ;)

Your brain is like RAM, once you reboot the info data disappears, that is your short term memory, however your Long term memory in your brain is like a Harddisk, anything over 12 seconds goes into your Harddisk, anything below or equal to 12 seconds goes into your RAM.

if you think about it that way when something need to be memorized, it's gonna be easier and fun.

    1 9 4 1 9 8 2 3 1 1 9 2

try remember those number first as single numbers, read them once and then repeat with eyes closed....you won't be able to remember them all....then try them as 4 digit each this time...surprise surprise ...you remember em. :p

    I can't say it better, and I tryed your Number thing;
    194298231191, but it was 194298231192.
I remembered them all each after the other, but it looks like a blurry picture in my head, still I can remember it
194298231192. How wait, I just realised I did your trick... lol :D 1942-9823-1192.
:D And tonigh i'll do the "what happened before" trick.
And perfection would be to remember what you eat for dinner, lol
