I want to upgrade this crap pc, my spec :
    P4 1,6 Ghz
    256 SDRAM
    Rad 9600XT

I play NFSU 2 and its runs laggy, heavy laggy when smoke outs, lots of car, building, sometimes runs smooth.
And i think i only need to upgrade cpu and memory to this :
    Athlon XP 3000 Barthon
    512 DDR 3200

What should i choose between Athlon XP 3000 and 3200, is it make big differences significantly ? cause i use them for a long time period.
I choose nforce 2 chipset, is it good ? cause i want to use dual channel memory for cheap. And play NFSU 2 more playable! please. And is the dual channel memory make big performance significantly ?
In my town these upgrades takes around $210

    Thanks.

Well, Athlon Xp are old now
Buy an Athlon 64 3200,they are much better than AThlon XP at the same Performance Rating (the 3200 Number)

Athlon XP are still good.. But go for 64bit if u have the money.

    I need advise too...

witsh one is better for me? XP2400+ with 139x15 or Sempron 2500+ with 175x10.5.

xp's are better than semprons, however semprons have 64bit support! My computer runs nfsu2 fine on full graphics with 8xaa 4as aswell! :)

No they don't, Semprons lack 64bit support.
Also Barton cored AXP's are faster than Semprons due to the L2 cache being doubled (256 vs. 512k) which rougly equates to 200MHz.

At least 512mb of DDR 400, 1gb would be much healthier.

My friend said if i want to go for DDR 400 (PC3200) i must have at least Barthon AMD 3200 because the fsb is 200 mhz, and if i want to go for Barthon 3000 i must use DDR PC 2700 fsb at 166 mhz. Is that true ?
My friend said if i go to Barthon 3000 and DDR PC 3200 memory, the performance is same as DDR PC 2700, is that true ?

Either way just get PC3200 or higher if you'd like, and it will downclock to what your FSB is. They are priced the same so you should go with the PC3200 over PC2700 for sure.

    Re: Memory

Hi Pirates, I think you and your friend doesnt know about overclocking PC at all. If you dont want to overclock your PC, then yes you should get Barton 3200+ cause it runs at FSB 200MHz default, Barton 3000+ runs at FSB 166 MHz. Im using Barton 2500+ but it runs at FSB 200MHz (overclocked). Barton XP are the best deal for budget gaming PC right now.

What you can do is keep your graphics card. And buy the following.

    Keep:
    Sapphire 9600XT

    Main Items To Buy:
    Abit NF7-S v2
    AMD athlon xp 3200+
512mb ddr PC3200 ram [try not to get generic even if not overclocking]
a good case with good airflow.
at least 350w psu [antec or enermax]
    and a HDD.

    Motherboard probs

Thank you very much for replying.

But ABIT NF7 - S in my country is difficult for insurance, and the dealer is recommend Biostar for value and its good better than Elite N2U400-A its that right ?

Why? There is no logical reason to buy a 3200+XP anymore. It carries a huge price premium now.

    Re: Motherboard probs

Hmm, yes, I suppose Biostar would suffice as long as you're not much of a tweaker. That ECS board.. well, I'd prefer the Biostar.
