I know there have been some threads like this recently, but I couldn't find the answers I needed. My lovely Trinitron CRT has finally died after 10 years, but I've been wanting to get a widescreen anyway for games. I'm a little confused as to weather or not I should get a 16:9 or 16:10 monitor. I know one is the DVD standard, but I wont be watching many movies on this rig. Is either one better for games? Maybe one not supported often? Any idea how much would 1920x1200 vs. 1920x1080 tax my video card? Lastly, I've read there are now 120hz monitors that are supposed to look great, however I haven't found a store that has one so I've never seen for myself. Anyone have any first hand experience with these? Here's what I'm basically looking at: 16:10 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001280 16:9 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001330 120Hz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001311 Thanks!
The Samsung T240HD is a good monitor, but it also has a digital tv tuner built into it for watching tv. If you're not going to be using it for that, I'd get the Samsung T240 which lacks the tv tuner and is also a little bit cheaper. As for 16:10 vs 16:9 for gaming, it really depends. Your video card should be able to handle either one with relative ease, but I'd go for the 1920x1200 res just because its a better resolution than 1920x1080. If you aren't going to be watching movies on it, then I'd definitely go for the 1920x1200 monitors just because it'll look a tiny bit better. As for 120hz, its only really beneficial if you plan to use the 3D Stereo vision, which isn't really worth it. I'd just stick with the Samsung T240 and be set with that for years to come.
^ Pretty much what he said about the technical side of screen sizes and aspect ratios. You don't really need a 120Hz monitor... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009162 This is the one my bro recently got and its pretty damn good , has touch screen panel, hdmi, dvi and vga connections. 1920x1080, 1900x1200 resolutions on the 8800/9800GTX series should run fine max out most games. If you're going to spend $300-400, might as well spend $200 on a monitor and $200 on a new video card !
For gaming SAMSUNG P2370 High glossy black 23" 2ms. I like it for the VERY low response time. I have a 5ms lcd hdtv from Samsung & you can notice the difference between 5ms & 2ms. Alot less ghosting & shuddering. Props on Samsung as the choice, they make a great lcd.
Okay based on what you guys have said, plus what I've read elsewhere, it seems like a low response time would be best for gaming. I'd like to go 1920x1200 for the higher resolution, but I like the monitor recommended above (which is 1920x1080). What do you think of these 2? Is ASUS a good company for monitors? I love their mobo's but I trust Samsung more as a TV manufacturer. ASUS 1920x1200 2ms http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236047 Samsung 1920x1080 2ms http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001330 Thx again for your help guys!
ASUS makes good monitors as well, not their 'specialty' per say but the model you just linked is pretty good. It also has HDMI so you can hook up your console or cable box/blue-ray player easily. The samsung one doesnt have one . But both brands are good and its a matter of choosing 1920x1200 vs 1920x1080 and of course the price difference.
