Merry Christmas everyone. I decided to post a video of me playing the song "Linus and Lucy" (the one every pianist knows, apparently). I was hoping to get people to watch it and, if so inclined, to give it a comment and maybe even a like. It's not perfect, but then I'm a pizza driver, not a jazz musician.

    Thanks for your attention!

Yeah I saw that vid. I'm not good enough to do that kind of stuff, though. I'm more aimed at getting gigs in a bar band that pay enough to cover gas and beer. If I can do that then I'll have something to do on the weekends finally. Plus in a band if you mess up it's easier to cover.

The thumbs downs I can live with. It isn't like I did it like a pro. But in the field of amateurs I think I did pretty well, when compared to most of the other videos of folks at home covering the song. One thing unique (not that anyone here cares) about mine is I play the left-hand bit in the first solo that the original guy (Vince Guaraldi) played on the song, which as far as I've seen nobody else does. I can do the bass part too but I find the other way to have more charm. The sheet music is incomplete and has several errors, and all the tutorials I could find just weren't quite right, so I just listened very intently to the song at different speeds and so-forth until I worked out what was going on. Also I listened to other versions of the song he'd recorded, and some other works by him, and figured out some things. He has some little odd tricks that I've tried to imitate, which nobody else seems to, like bumping the keys with the heel of his hand.

Maybe I got the thumbs down because someone noticed my Youtube name.

If I get around to polishing the song up I might re-upload it. The weird thing is, although the song turns out to be within 1 second of the length of the original, I can hear where my tempo speeds up and slows back down, and I really should try to use a metronome or something next try. Maybe I'll just play along to the original.
