Just some quick photos of the system after upgrading the cards on water. FIgured i'd post it somewhere where everyone could see it insted of some random thread. More later.. Case is a MountainMods Extended Ascension with Quad/2x tripple rads on the front and another Tripple rad in the bottom rear. Radiators are 3x Black Ice GTX360 Extreme and 1 GTX420. 46 Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-15 1850rpm fans haha i know.. LOVE THOSE FANS! QUIETEST RIG EVER! 6 pumps (2 sets of 3 pumps) Liang DDC "Older models" that are silent and reliable. 1 group for the blocks + bottom GTX360 Rad and 1 group for the rads (1GTX480 and 2x GTX360). The water is exchanged at the Res. 2x XSPC Premium Laing Triple DDC Clear Acrylic Top for the pumps. Res Modified EK-Multioption RES X2 - 400 Advanced with 2 bottoms as the top did not have enough ports for me. I need bleed ports to keep the air out of the top. Bitspower barbs all around and i also went threw the pain of connecting the rads in the front with fittings only. Lots of guess work and over after order to get the write length parts. MB Block - Koolance Rampage IV Extreme full coverage block. CPU Block EK-Supreme HF High Flow CPU Water Block - Full EN (Nickel) GPU blocks - 4x EK FC-7970 nickel/Acetal Water Tubing- Feser Red UV - Gota mention this stuff as its junk. Been 2 years not even since i've installed it and you cant touch it without getting red crap all over your hands! Next time i'm going with clear tubing. In that last pic.. i've had one of those D-Plugs pop off before in the past! Ton of pressure from the 2 sets of 3 pumps! haha. Thank god it was early on in the air bleeding phase and the system was not powered. But boy was it dramatic when it did one end poped off.. Massive water spray like someone put there finger over a garden hose to increase the pressure. Nuts. Strapped down for saftey! Will get some fatter zip-ties as i ran out of the black larger ones. The link from the MB block to the graphics cards.. Thats just something a little different to give it a signature look. haha. Had the extra fittings and thought that would look different. Also heres more pics of the insides from when this case was originally built (Nvidia Quad GTX580) http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?&m=693435&mpage=1 Post 59 was the last update for that rig before i upgraded the rig as shown here. Also want to mention something very important.. If you ever run a MB horizontal like this with all the weight from the graphics cards and water blocks.. be sure to use rubber spacers on the backside of the mb to help support it or the board will warp over time and possably damnage it. I use some general sink rubber washers that you can get from the hardware store. A assorted box will so nicely. There all the same thickness but different widths. I double them up so 2 is the same height as the MB spacers and hotglue them in place on the mb in areas where the most weight is where you can fit them with no parts/pins. Just gota make sure of the height of your mb spacers first so that its all level afterwards. You can sand down the rubber washer if needed.
Not true haha. I get plenty of frame rate to keep me happy with everything maxed. Cant wait to see how much more after overclocking the cards tonight. Though if they did manage to make a board that would support 6 cards it would be water cooling only as there would'nt be enough room in a case for 6 cards w/ stock cooling. Anyways would love to buy that if they did! haha.. maby in anther couple of years they'll have more then 4 cards. Of course it would be sweet if one could use 4 dual GPU cards
I don't blame you for doing this at all. The HD 7970's are so kick ass when OC'd. I love the two I have, I could only imagine quad fire. Nice setup man, you'll have to OC these things and give us some benches. Oh wait.....Octalfire!
Very nice build, we have very similar builds! My latest addition. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=357687 My previous build. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=348869 We should compare benchies!
Would be very interesting to compare forsure.. I was in need of 3GB cards but didnt want to spend money on a another card from Nvidia atm with talk of a newer card coming shortly as prices would fall pretty quick and i'd loose on the resale. So went with the 7970s. Just scored 65672 on Vantage with a minimal overclock of 1125/1450 at stock volts on the 7970s with system at 5Ghz. First attempt. I dont have 3Dmark 2011 installed atm.. i'll have to grab it. I believe my personal best in Vantage prior with the old system 990x Quad 580s was around 64k.
Wow, very very impressive! Good work, i would love to see some 3DM11 Pscores.. When i got something above 9000Points i was like wow (with the rig you see to the left) but compared to yours, its like im benching with my windows phone lol... And of course some videos would be very nice, like maxishine on youtube or similar.. Thanks for the share, its not often that i see a true maximum high-end machine like this thats not built from a company..
Damn! I was thinking about getting one - you got four, haha! Now i really need to get one, just gotta wait for ivy bridge and maybe have a look at kepler.
Actually, you did pretty ****ing awesome! The WR is P32728, with Quad 7970 @1610/1930 What were the temps at that clocks?
All under 40c. haha to get clocks like that i'll need LN and thats not gona happpen. Gaming rig built for BF3 really Though i did score 27,200 late last night at 1200/1800. Had to flash to a Asus bios and use there GPU tweak program to up the memory voltage from 1600v to 1650v to get 1800Mhz ram to run. That GPU tweak program was very buggy for me so i ended up flashing back and just gona continue to run AB.
Thx guys! Yeah i've always used Nvidia before as well.. but since i was buying new i went for the fastest out there and thats currently Ati. I try to upgrade every year so to retain some decent resale value on the hardware to help pay for the new stuff. That and a nice tax check makes this possable! hehe. For some reason i like the look of the Ati graphics better.. seems softer over Nvidia which is sharper.
