This is what happens with OpFlashpoint2, if the login server goes down = nobody plays!
Another think to think about is if PC games are going to end up console clones then nvidia, amd, intel and other pc componant manufacturing companys will loose money, why upgrade to the latest graphics card/cpu if the game is a console port? The pc version won't have super cool graphics or need a fast cpu to run!

If you make a game for console then port it over it will run on a lowend pc, no need to upgrade, no point to upgrade!

I spent over £600 upgrading, new cpu/vga/motherboard/ram to play opflash2 and MW2 and others coming next year, but i feel it was a waste because opflsh 2 is uninstalled and in the draw, won't be getting MW2 now and i'm still playing battlefield2 after about 4 years.

Thats what they don't want, people playing games for years and them not making any more money from us. So they release short SP games with crap MP so when they release part 2 in 8 month people go out and buy it and then buy part 3 another few months after that.

Lets hope someone will do an addon for cod:MW1 to give us more maps/guns and keep us playing for longer :)

With Infinity Ward ensuring there won't be any dedicated servers, COD4 might be getting a lot more content from modders. :D

What we need is a constant PC Gamers Alliance made by and for gamers, not just when things go wrong and petition's arise.
Truly disappointed with this, since i played a lot COD1 and 2 and in a way we all helped the franchise to grow. I understand IW want´s to stop piracy and it´s their right, since it´s destroying the PC gaming.
What i cant understand is that measure like this, or others as stupid like Securom, are the only thing industry is doing, ah and rising prices. They are treating everyone like thief's instead of promoting measure that punish the pirates and reward the true gamers.

They made their choice, i made mine, COD no more.

So you're saying that PC gamers should unionize?

Guys, Robert Bowling just updated his blog.

THERE WILL BE DEDICATED SERVERS, just not how we envisioned it ... no P2P as some are worried about:

EDIT: I think his explanations are still a lil' weak, he never addressed the modding issue.

It's not a dedicated server though still. When people say dedicated servers, they mean servers that are built and made to host a server for Call of Duty. Not a game created on a hosts connection, truely dedicated. Truth be told, I can live without the mods as long as IW brings map packs in. With this system though, you can't set anything.

    Example.
I hate noob tubes.(GL) They're the cheapest way to get a kill. It's not fair in my eyes. So, I go to servers on COD4 that doesn't allow them.

Or, if it's a sniper match only. You can't kick anyone who's not using a sniper. And to really get one going, you have to know a lot of people who wants to play it.

Then there are other random mini games, like Cops and robbers. In COD4, you can find servers that play Cops and Robbers. Now, you need to know enough people to.

You can't play customized games really with this system.

Ok, I think he meant dedicated servers as in the webhosting term, which means a server that is dedicated to doing one thing, which is to host something. Thereby removing the fears that it's still Peer to Peer which some people thought it would be since that's how it works on the XBOX 360/PS3 versions.

That was also my biggest concern. Next is the modding which I just see it as an extra more than a requirement but still, it would've been nice to get some mods available.

I'm both a console and PC gamer, so for me, I don't really care about matchmaking since I'm quite used to both systems, both have their pros and cons.

As for not being able to customize, I thought Bowling did say you can set a large amount of settings on the private game room...

Not as extensive as modifying a server host file though. I don't like Halo 3, but I like how they have a whole game type lobby for mini games.

Mods are essential for PC gaming, as any decent competition group utilizes one mod or enouther to even the game out (heck, CoD:MW had 2 major competition mods out within a month!). No more; you're at the mercy of company sponsered patches to keep the game balanced.

Activision just screwed its primary market, and they are going to get pounded because of it. Milking the CoD franchise can't help much either, and BF:BC2 is comming out at JUST the right time...

Activision is just trying to do to CoD what EA did to Madden '0 n+1.

Well I suppose folks should try it. I think getting people to sign up would probably be easy if a few major sites got together to promote it. However, creating a consensus strong enough to get people to act in unison with no means of enforcement will be very hard. For it to have power, gamers would need to register their game purchases via a scanned receipt image or something.

The current paradigm of gamers pissing and moaning about a game for a year, then buying it the second it's released needs to end. Especially in MMORPGs. However, some gamers are just too reactionary and take a poor initial stance in the first place. If they were to hold their stance instead of caving in it could hurt legit games that initially caused outrage (l4d2).

Cracked CD keys that people buy for cheap, and there are tons of cracked servers that a lot of people play on.

Burnt_Ram: uuh.... i think that people have websites set up DEDICATED to cracked servers. I'd double check that, but i don't feel like leaving this page right now, and like usual, for some reason IE8 seems to be having a b*tch-fit, and is only letting THIS tab in THIS window do anything but attempt to connect to a website. Where the hell is IE9 when you need it. lol

All i can say is... even though it's more than likely against forum rules to say this... should they not change their mind and keep it in the whole stupid matchmaking system of internet games... i'm almost positive i'm going to just find a ripped copy of the game online that, say, doesn't have the multiplayer portion or something, and just play the single player. And i highly doubt i'm the only person that has that frame of mind since this whole stupid decision broke out.

Activision are the new EA, they want yearly releases of their most successful series, they dont want mods to increase the longevity, they want to control all new maps/features via paid downloadable content.

This has 0 to do with providing features that will be so 'great' for the PC community, this about control and hard cash.

IW under Activision couldnt give a toss about what PC gamers want unless it will affect their sales. I for one wont buy this, moreso the arrogance of trying to hide all the crap under the pretence of providing us features, ffs, cop on Activision, we're not the 13 year olds you deal with in the console market/forums.

Hope it fails miserably on the PC.
