IMO Messenger 7 is very gimmicky. I still prefer 6.2 as 7 is too fussy.

The more gimmicks the better :p I personnally dont like the winks, but there's a really cool new feature called Dynamic Display Picture (or DDP). Its a display picture which will change according to your mood. If type alot of :) smileys, it will look happy, if you type alot of :( smileys it will look unhappy. Cool eh?

well, all i know is this

if msn keeps getting happier and more gimmicky, there will be a time when 6.2 wont work any more, and that will be the day i will really switch to a 3rd party client like trillian or something

i dont need to be able to de anoyed every time some dumb ass (who i need on my list for school bussines) feels like pressing the "wink" button

Personally I just use Miranda IM.

Mutlichat client without all the pretty garbage, just a contact list with contacts.

Heaps of plugins to choose from, different Icons, themes, RSS, weather, games.

You name it, heaps of plugins, I suggest you have a look if you use a few different clients to connect.

If you want a more pretty version, try this one, it's the same but bundled with a whole bunch of programs.

Doesn't look much different, or should I say no difference at all from the last beta, at least to my attention.

I might get that version of 7 later, if only there was a way to customize the view, take out all the ads, my place and that annoying little bar at the bottom of chat windows.

[edit] found ad remover with google search

Msn messenger always has had a option on your tools panel to disable emoticons when you chat, custom made or the default onse. So i dont understand why people are making a big deal of some new winks and emoticons, if you dont want to be annoyed by your buddies then disable the winks, is that easy.

The trouble is, MSN Messenger has such a large userbase (probably because it comes with Windows), hence people (myself included) are pretty much tied to it for that reason.

Some features are good, many are unnecessary (such as the Search button below the Send button). It also seems to tie in more with Microsoft software and services (e.g. Windows Media Player and MSN Search). I also have no idea who's going to pay money for extra emoticons / backgrounds either.

    Excuse me?

You make it sound like you have to pay for Miranda.

That's not the case, you always have a choice, you just have to use it every now and then.

Miranda is FREE, all of it's plugins are FREE, it connects to the MSN Network, has Avatar support, can use MSN's Emoticons, can send and receive files.

Not sure what else you want, connects to MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, AIM, IRC.

How many more clients do you use?
