Depend where, the RX 590 is more expensive than RX 580 in here :(
The RX 580 have just reached descent price and they put the RX 590 at old RX 580 price... wich is around 100 Euro more than GTX 1060, and the new GTX 1060 is just 10 Euro more than the old.

Also Vega 56 is nearly at the same price (depending of the brand) than the RX 590... maybe it is a better choise.

Yeah, a nicely discounted vega is a far better option than any RX 5XX series. ;)

No the GTX960 (GM206-300-A1) have half of the GTX980 (GM204-400-A1) but is a complete GPU in itself, it's not a 980 cut in half.
    The "old" GTX1060 (GP106-400-A1 and GP106-410-A1) is also a different GPU than the GTX1080 (GP104-400-A1) BUT the "new" GTX1060 (GP104-150-A1) IS a GTX1080 chunked.

I have put the name of the GPU and underlined what is important in their real name to understand.

Because the GTX 1060 is the most USED and BOUGHT card.

I guess they needed a way to get rid of their oversupply of gp104 chips, without canabalizing their rtx 2070 sales.

It's obvious you've never used SLI before.

Also, it's not "pointless" at all. It works on the vast majority of modern games. And as another person mentioned above, if you play at high resolutions at max settings and demand high consistent fps, multi-gpu usually is your only option.

That's what makes PC gaming attractive to me and many others. The fact that you can use dual gpu's to power your games past what's currently is the limit is absolutely insane! I love it.

I hope multi-gpu's only gets better and better in the future.

Sifr: SLI is nice when it works, but in case of GTX1060 it's not possible.

I know, my comment was in general, not specific to the 1060.

I'm not sure why you'd say this comment as we don't really know if SLI will work on the GTX 1060 model mentioned here. In fact, i believe i saw someone post a reply from a manufacturer that stated it will.

Only time and testing will tell, ofcourse, though. I will still stand by the fact that if it DOESN'T support SLI, that's going to piss off customers who clearly see SLI connectors and buy another card to SLI.

And the 1050 3gb version is a watered down 1050 Ti.

On the first point. 100% wrong. I have. More than you most likely

Also yes, it is indeed pointless and only for those with more money than sense. Any savvy techy out there knows SLI is just a gimmick. IT does NOT work on the vast majority of modern games. IT has more issues than not.
I see you're a fanboy of the SLI, so you're defending it. I don't care either way. If it was good, I'd use it but it's actually not great at all. Plus you're paying for two cards with memory you can only use on one card. Total rip off in that sense.
Go and do some research before you come back to me saying how great it is. It isn't, end of story.
1 x 1080ti is more than capable of anything you want, why you'd need two ? well, like people who have 5 cars, you don't. You just like having them because you have more money than sense ;) Simple.

As for "multi gpus getting better" - not happening dude. As I said, do some research. SLI is dead. Moving forward we'll simply have more powerful single GPU solutions (as if we didn't have cards already powerful enough) and no need to spend extra money and get ripped off for 1.2x performance (when it works, which isn't very often) with the same amount of memory. THink about that for a second. On many games performance is WORSE with SLI. It's no secret. SO it's obvious YOU haven't much experience with SLI and think it's the bees knees. It isn't.

So, obvious.....you were wrong about that and wrong about the rest too :D Thx for the laughs though and don't take it so personally.

I don't mean to butt in your differences but right now on newegg 2 1070tis Is about 800 and 1 1080ti is like 1000.
I think when it works its ok never great but not that sucky either
some think its better to go abit slower all the time some think the boost most of the time is worth it
so at this point with fps's and pricing If o had a 70 card i would take a chance with sli for 350-400 more if the rest of the rig and monitor was worthy.
or just spend over 1200 for better performance with 1 card
I would not do these 1060's in sli maybe just maybe if 256 bit ,$180 a piece and only 1080p
