I don't expect an update for my Z87 either... specially not from Gigabyte.

Time for gaming and system benchmarks I guess. The BIOS update is supposed to give the big performance drop. Unless this is not the performance nerf BIOS update.

From what I have seen it's mostly related to read/write speeds of some tasks. From benches i've seen last week, fps drops are in 1-5 fps margins. And those were in cases with 180+ fps.

Personally I cap my fps in 99.9% of my games (World of tanks being an exception) at my screen refresh rate, being 100hz - 98fps cap. Due to in my case, you won't even notice it.

    That's some MSI bullshit.
Z170-A PRO has no new BIOS listed in the downloads.

Anyone care to share some pre and post update performance figures?

It never said it should. Only the 300-series boards have yet, X299, 200, 100 and X99 will get it in the coming days. It even says so in the article.

According to Microsoft performance will be dropped on all platforms once all the patches and BIOS updates are out. Whatever benchmarks are done with only last week's Windows update are invalid. You need both the new BIOS and all the updates to measure the performance dip. MS says it's going to be significant especially for those with older than Haswell CPU and on Windows 8 or 7. I have a sense that more Windows updates will be issued in the coming weeks.

We can only hope that Intel release a general microcode update (as usual intel do) to patch and use it at OS loading time. Actual Intel microcode version on Intel support site is still from November 2017 (it's the IME patch).

    I bet.

Intel needs money now for the lawsuits against them, so they will probably force people to buy 6th Gen or newer.

I have to say peeking at the MSI forums once the vulnerabilities came public was pretty entertaining. MSI didn't handle this too well...
Nonetheless I'm glad to see they patched things up rather quick and I can get to flashing.

    You're reading it wrong.
    Z170 Z170-A PRO E7971IMS.1I0

On MSI's website there's still the old 7971v1I Release Date 2017-05-05.

This list of BIOSes doesn't really make sense. It is saying version numbers for new BIOSes that are using the same number versions of old BIOSes.
