    See post 131... 2670 = 1.1750V

Your math looks good to me.

My XFX Black Edition comes up as 00002c90. I thought these were supposed to be the best of the best cores?
Mind you, I have no problems with overlocking to 1125/1575 at all.

It's rather interesting that I've not seen even a single 1.025V chip yet. My guess that those chips are selected for upcoming 7990 (similar to 6990 using low-leakage Caymans only).

Somebody decided do dump GPU register while having low-level hardware access interface disabled.

Yeah I haven't seen one either.
You're probably right; Ati has used lower voltage/lower clocks for their dual boards to fit TDP limits.

Also people shoudn't be going crazy about not having a low VID card. Most of the cards seem to reach similar clocks, anyway, and OVP limits the Vid overvolt to +125mv. Just the low VID card will do 1200-1225 mhz at 1175 mv and thus run cooler, while the high Vid card will need 1225-1275mv. Good for people who don't like high speed fan noisy fan.

LN2 users going for world records might not be happy about the OCP/OVP though, since they'll gladly pour 1.5v on a card....(and they're responsible enough to know how to cool the vrm's)

Did you stop to consider that if you had a 1.05v "Best core" card, and you couldn't use more than 1100 mhz on the core with the CCC, without crashing and artifacts, that you would be screaming bloody murder, scam, core, and what not, if you didn't have AB or Trixx to tweak with yet?

    Please think about that.

As it currently stands, the BEST cores to use if you want to use CCC and only CCC, are the high VID ones. Precisely the one you have. And precisely what XFX expects you to use (marketing FTW).

    So don't complain.

Just wait for Sapphire to release the Toxic edition ones, probably with higher or removed OVP limits....wonder what sort of volts they will need to push 1325 stock on the cores...

    Just got my HIS 7970, ran MSIafterburner.exe /rr174 000036a0
Default voltage in afterburner says 1049mv?

Right. Your default VID is 1.050v. At load, the voltage will be less than that due to vdroop (something we've had on CPU's since Socket 478 days).

You can try going to max CCC settings, but if you crash or artifact, you will need to raise the voltage. Try 1.12v or 1.175v. You will NOT be able to put more than 1.175v into your card.

You don't have to change anything in gpu type field on 7970.

i notice that in gpuz my voltage doesnt go higher than 1.17 even if i put in afterburner 1.25, it is a limit of my card?

    anyway with 1.17 i'm stable at 1200mhz

gpu-z doesn't support direct access to 7970 vrms yet.

ah thanks for the tip, the measuring with afterburner is accurate? (ok sry i'll read the whole thread)

one other thing if i can ask.... what do you think is the max safe voltage on air for the 7970 (daily use)?
