What will I expect? I guess its a big jump and should be just about right for my monitor (1920x1080), but how will it fare with dx11 stuff like the latest Crysis 2 patch, and with newer games like Witcher 2? I'm a newbie when it comes to ati/amd, always used nvidia cards before so I hope I won't run into any problems. Also, will my power supply be sufficient enough? Aside from what I have listed, I also have 5 120mm case fans running, a v6gt and a 1tb HDD
Because I figured this was the amd gpu thread and it was alright to post my question here? Yeah I checked the VGA chart already but didn't see any benches for crysis 2's dx11 patch or witcher 2.
Wow, what an obnoxious way of putting it... Anyway, Op, yeah you'll be seeing sometimes twice as much performance according to benchmarks I've seen. So that'll be an awesome upgrade for you. Also, C2 ultra DX11 needs a sh1tload of VRAM and the 6970 2Gb has exactly that. 700w is more than enough for a 6970. You may want to consider getting a 6950 2GB and unlocking its BIOS to run essentially like 6970. This is smthng that many have done in order to save some $.
I upgraded from a 295 gtx to a 6970. Had to do it coz my nvidia card was dying. I can say I perceived a little improvement with older games, newer games like crysis 2 ran a whole lot better tho. I game on a 1920x1200 monitor.
A 295 GTX is about the same as a 6950 (much better than a 275) so he'll feel a much bigger boost. ;-)
Thanks for the opinions. I already have a deal setup with someone for the 6970 so I'll most prolly be getting it by tomorrow. Can't wait, been sometime now since I've updated the gpu in my rig
That was the plan too but I suddenly felt that upgrade itch creeping up. I guess I'll just sell the 6970 once the new cards come out
Man, I now have the 6970 at hand but got to endure 10 or so hours before I can get home from work to take this beast for a ride.
Hehe...It's ref 6970 sIR? If I'm not mistaken, the receipt says John Benedict Tolledo bought at Dynamic PC? Im the original owner...
Ooh, I though that was his name haha. Anyway yeah, its the one from Dynamic PC. EDIT: I guess your Jocarl at tpc?

3rd? Wow, then that makes me the 5th? Lol, looks like this gpu has seen a new owner now every month since you bought the thing. Good thing it still looks pretty good. Anyway, I've installed the gpu already on my rig and dang, such a nice improvement over my 275.
