Most underrated and Overrated game

Overrated: Halo 1 and 2 Both games bored me to death and I can't believe people still play it.

Underrated: Call of Juarez and an oldie Outcast.

 

Vice City is my favorite right after GTAII, you may laugh at me but i found at those days that GTAII was insanly great game, just push the button and wreck havok!!!

most underrated in my book

any of the Trackmania games, such fun games and really great community but for some reason the masses just aint interested, could be cos there aint a gun in the middle of the screen and tons of space mutants or zombies trying to get you.

the Halo games, they aint poor games but i just couldnt figure out what made em so spectacular to some, the first one especially with all the artificial stretching of the game towards the end with the copy&paste levels. with the 2nd one i was hoping for futuristic urban warfare as shown on all the previews but i was so disapointed when the game ended up happening on a new Halo... been there done that.

 

I think BF1942 is quite underated.
All these games copy the style, but back when 1942 came out nothing was in the same category, one level where you could, fight on foot, tanks, jeeps, planes, ships, submarines. And it came out in 2002!
Alot of people came at bf2 and thought that was it, but on many levels 1942 was much better especially for its time.

Overrated: Halo, GTA (everything after GTA2), Oblivion, Stalker, R6:Vegas, Battlefield 2

Underrated: Supreme Commander, Tiberium Sun, KOTOR, X3:Reunion, Jedi Outcast, Riddick.......

....there are more that i can list but its too early in the morning for me to think of them. Some of these games such as Halo i actually fell asleep once because it bored the hell out of me. As for games like SupCom you need a lot of patience to pass through a mission and maybe thats why most people do not like the game.

Way Overhyped: Crysis

 

Under rated - Sid Meier's Pirates, best game ever, bar none,

over rated - the sims, halo,

 

Insanely over-populated: WoW. Most games I can understand why people like them even if I don't personally; but not that. I'd rather play the hilariously poor Breed. I guess its hard to argue with millions of people tho.

Also overated: Halo. the final levels are terrible! And that flood crap.

Then again, I loved Far Cry and even found the monsters pretty fun, a nice dose of old-school FPS in a lovely environment. For me, just soldiers would have gotten boring.

Riddick is great as well. I found HL2 awesome, just needs to be treated like a new game not constant comparisons to HL. I definitely prefer the 1984 society to the expanse of black mesa.

Cannot judge: Crysis. People seem to have made their minds up based on a few screenshots, gotta wait until play but the graphics do look awesome.

 

forgot to say that max payne 2 is also quite underrated
the story was very well told and i found it very enjoyable
its nothing compared to the original but still a great game

HELL YES!!! it's a piece of ****. in addition i think that Far Cry wasn't that great game, it has superior graphic but gameplay i've seen better.

 

Overrated:
Oblivion (I mean come on lets get back to daggerfall beth...)
WoW (there are many free MMO's that are just as good)

Underrated:
Riddick (OMG this game pwned but was far to short...)


IMO STALKER was not overrated it was a great game hell it must be decent if I finished it lol...

 

Hey, stop that. SC is not overrated. Just because you don;t like a game, it doesn't mean it's overrated. SC caters very well to RTS players that like a bit of strategy for a change.

 

wraith: honestly.... i can't see how you found Vegas to be overrated. it's the only tactical FPS i remember playing.... ever really. graphics are top notch too.... and the AI is kinda stunning.

Decane: as it was said before.... should have looked at HL2 as a new game, and not try to compare it to HL1. The sounds were quite nice if you ask me..... at least on a 5.1 surround sound system with a nice sub.

And if you're going to say a game with LINEAR levels is a piece of crap.... i'd have to say that Doom 3 would rank in that category a LOT higher than HL2 ever could. I mean come on..... linear levels may not be all that interesting, but it can't be any worse than linear levels that you wind up backtracking on half the time.

I'm not exactly sure what i'd put in the overrated category besides Doom 3.... but in the underrated category... there's only one game i can think of, and it's kinda old. Starsiege. not talking about the PoS's known as Tribes... those damn things took the Starsiege name.... a game where you were piloting Mechs, and turned it into a game where people wandered around with armor and crap. pissed me off, cause that practically put an end to Starsiege.... although i think they're now coming out with a sequel to Starsiege.

edit: oh.... and as it's been said..... putting a game into the overHYPED category long before it's release..... just plain weird. i mean, you can't tell whether a game is overhyped or not until you play it, and even then there will probably be a LOT of people that think differently, hence why i wasn't always a fan of these overrated/underrated threads. usually ends up in stuff like i just posted...

 

Overrated: C&C3, HL2, FEAR (Most modern FPS games, really), Near every NFS game released since NFS2.

Underrated: Grandia, JK2: Outcast

 

Underrated:
1)The longest journey, Dreamfall : the longest journey. Both were fantastic but never got the popularity it deserved.
2) GTA 2: Humor and hijinks ruled!
3) Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, but i'll never know since its not installing in vista properly, and driver no working.
4) Slave Zero: Fun and looked great. Just never got the attention it deserved.


Overrated.
Doom 3: The leaked beta had more promise than that game delivered.
Stalker: It took so long to come out and while its fun, its still a deflated game.
Halo: While I like this game, it became a victim of its own hype machine.
WOW: Still a pile of ****.
Half life 2 and episode 1: Good games but at points did drag on. And the steam aspect made me hate it. And yeah, most of the weapons were weak.

 

HL2 overated....

The Alpha Leaked version was awsome....then the game came out and wasnt all that fun.
