I am going to buy a new 1080p monitor for my RTX 2060 oc. The AOC 24G2 144Hz or the 24G2E5 75Hz are good options. What I do not understand is if a high refresh rate, like the 144Hz will affect the performance of my VGA or even CPU? Will there be a drop in fps? If get the 144Hz and find that the performance is not as good as before then can I lower the refresh rate to 120 or 75 or even down to 60 and the monitor will still work perfectly fine?
if your trying to push 144 fps to that 144hz then yes it gona effect your perfromance, special if cpu and gpu cant handle such framerates. My understand is you can use 144hz + can be capped to framerates lower you just want have a smooth image as if it was actual doing 144 fps, Like on desktop the mouse will look alot smoother and clear at 120hz vs 60hz but at same time the desktop in not gona be pushing 120fps just cause it set to 120hz at lest to my understanding.
Little late, just seen this post. I would hold off on that AOC 24G. I purchased one about 3 weeks ago for my son's backup PC at his mom's house. I did not like it, the screen does not get bright at all, and the color was horrible no matter what I did to it. Sent it back, and got a MSI Optix MAG274R. Big difference, and a much better menu, too.
what cpu ? go with 144hz if you have at least a 9400f/1600af higher refresh makes a world of difference with a g-sync compatible monitor you don't need to worry about the refresh rate,there is no tearing or lag or jitter at any fps value
There will not be any difference. For example: CSGO or any game for that matter, might run 180+ fps on a particular PC setup. Even though you might have a 60Hz monitor, the game still runs at 180 fps, you will just see it at 60 fps, due to the 60Hz monitor. Now, with the 144Hz, you will be able to use it. In Nvidia control panel (Amd, not sure) you can set max FPS rate, and it is a good idea to set it a 1hz below you monitor max Hz (for 144Hz monitor, set it at 143 max). Hope this helps.
I have a 144Hz Freesync 2 monitor at 3840x1080, when I play a GPU intensive game (like Metro Exodus PC Enhanced) with RT enabled and Reflections Raytraced, my GPU can't hit that required 144Hz, far from it. But it plays fine at about 50fps to ~100fps depending on the scene, I don't see weird artifacts/tearing/etc, game is as smooth as the GPU is capable of running it.
