Mobility 5650 vs Mobility 2600 performance

    Hi there,
Thought this might be the best place to ask.

Anyway can you guys give me an estimate of how much faster it will be?

My guess just off shaders would be 3.3X but i know that it wont scale linearly so ~ 2X as fast im guessing.

    Model: HD2600, HD5650
    Shaders: 120, 400
    Memory: 256MB, 1024MB
    Bus width: 128-bit, 128- bit
    Core(Mhz): 500, 550
    Memory: 600, 800

    Any guestimates welcome:)

    thanks,
    Dave

I would say it should be anywhere around 3x to 4x faster depending on the game, maybe faster.

I'm going to say you double up on performance triple at most.

The shaders will triple up, but your memory bandwith will still stay about the same.

The 5650 only comes with GDDR3 and not 5.

I'd still recommend the jump because it should run cooler at idle and maybe have a better battery life because of the new power management in the 5000 series.

Keep in mind that the 5650 is more or less on par with a HD4830, which is easily 3 times more powerful than the 2600.

Well i suppose i should give you the laptop : here

Anyway 2X the performance from the card but im guessing itll be slightly more for the processor connected with it.

So say 2.5X if so sounds good mainly becouse my current laptop is starting to give in DVD drive has just gone kaput.

    thanks

Hear is the information from Notebook check.
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5650.23697.0.html

3DMark06 scores vary anyware between 6500 to 7800 depending on ram and processor.
3DMarkVantage is anywhere between 3150 and 3450 also depending on the rest of the laptop.

From a rough guestimate i would say it is somewhere around an HD 4670/9600GSO desktop cards.

It's the same gpu as the desktop HD5570, but downclocked. So, hears a review of the 5570. :p

Well looking at that and te fact that ill clock it at 5730 speeds itll be close in performance to my 2900XT in my desktop
as long as it can play well at its screen res its fine.

In fact overall this laptop could be faster than my desktop, now thats something thats not good.

    Thanks
    Dave
