    Holy ****.

At this point several tinyier PSU's are far more worth it right? Where would you need something like this?

I think this would be good for someone running a bitcoin mining farm or a folding@home farm.

Then again I would want to monitor it 24/7 after that last picture! lol :p

    Dear God!

Think I know few people who would probably use this PSU for rendering farms.

But as OP just said 1 year warranty is absolutely ridiculous, don't think this thing is gonna make a market boom because of such small warranty. I would never ever buy something like so expencive and get nly 1 year warranty period, for that money I expect at least 3 year warranty or gtfo!

    edit
OP, both reviews are mentioning 3 years warranty.

    edit #2
dear lord, 1yw, 3 yw... to much eaten pizza's obviously affected my eyes, lol

Things like this have existed forever for industrial applications.

This should be enough for these ugly, huge and useless GTX 2XX cards from years ago.

Anyone else notice the date of the article?

The Miller XMT 300, is a welder.....not a power supply.

I'd rather have 10 1kW PSUs (or 20 500W, who needs 1kW in a single PC anyway?). If one goes south 9 PCs still work, whereas if this one breaks down, all PCs are useless.

Indeed yes, it is a welding apparatus. But by design it pretty much is a switched-mode power supply, extremely large but otherwise not unlike those found in all our rigs, that, to maintain proper arc between the business end and the stuff to be welded, at all times keeps the voltage strictly within the limits set on the dial.

We used to have a welding supply store up the street that I spent a good bit of time in as a kid. I learned to weld when I was 7 using something similar to this (actually, I learned on on older version of it): AC/DC 225/125 - K1297

With an ARC welder, which is exactly what the XMT 300 is, you don't set voltage. You set amperage. Voltage is a pre-set constant.

I admit not having any actual welding experience, having only been around that sort of thing a few times as a kid (and being slightly terrified, I might add)

I presume I'm correct about it the device being an advanced SMPS, though?

You wouldn't want to attempt to power a computer off of a welder..... It will go up in flames. It is a power supply of sorts though since it does supply power to a positive lead. It operates on single-phase or 3-phase power input, so technically it would be "switched mode"

This would be good for running several servers together.

CPC_RedDawn, Woah, this is actually a monster, why would someone buy that for just one PC, I think a simple power supply that could at least be fit into a PC would be enough. Seeing the capacitors on this monster power supply makes me think that this can actually bear a power outage of few seconds at least. Nice work, whoever designed and built this has to be a PSU enthusiast.
