I'm looking for a video card that will do a decent job at gaming but without the heat. I currently have a 8800gtx that runs at 55C at idle. Right now this turns my office into a sauna so I'm trying to find out if there is a decent card that doesn't pump out the heat. I do run a 1920x1200 LCD panel off this.

In case it matters here is the other specs:

    AMD +5000 Black Edition
    2gb DDR2
    BioWare 780G MB w/ integrated ATI 3200

The 8800 is in a q6600 setup but I moved that into another room to be a file server.

Any other suggestions from a cooling standpoint would be appreciated even
though it is off topic here.

I can see why no one has replied to this post because its such a difficult question to answer. I think that whatever card you will select you'll probably be dissapointed compared to the performance that your current 8800GTX is giving you.

There are some reasonably good cards out there, ATI tend to have hotter cards than Nvidia but at the high end its pretty much of a muchness.

I would look at the 8600GT and 9600GT as a starting point though. If heat is a real concern have you considered aternative cooling methods? which is what I would personally do to keep my same hardware setup.

    Kindest regards

I would look at the G92, it runs cooler than the G80 and produces matched and mostly surpassed performance.

My 8800 GTS 512mb (G92) @ 864/2106/2000 on 1.38V never loads over 49C just with high end air cooling. The G92 is MUCH cooler than your G80 and takes only a small cooling solution to keep it cool. I also play @ 1920x1200 (BenQ FP241W), so I can assure you the G92 performs at this resolution. The only game I have problems with at all is obviously Crysis, but I still run at all high @ 1920x1200 and get ~40fps avg.

I would recommend the new 9800GT+/GTX+ on a 55nm process, should be even cooler and overclock even further.

I recommend the Thermalright HR-03 + Fan of Choice (This is all I'm using, see below)

I recommend the Rev. A to save weight over the classic and the GT.

You realize he wants to play @ 1920x1200 right? Not watch a slide show. Those cards can't even begin to perform at that resolution.

8800gts G92 would be your best bet, my 8800gt never loads over 47C but this is with the fan settings at 80%, its also slower than gts g92 though. But im not sure if you would be losing performance or not, 9600gt's also keep pretty cool and definitely is slower than ur 8800gtx
